Good metal guitar <= £350

I'm looking at moving on my strat and amp and going to using plugins and a decent metal guitar for my recordings as I'm struggling to get the sound and playability I want from my current setup.

Top end of my budget is around 350 and I'm happy to go secondhand but would rather avoid eBay. Any suggestions on a decent contender? I'm finding myself drawn to esp, ibanez (particularly rg series) and bc rich mockingbirds

The RGs are always going to be spot on, but don't forget the Sterling by MusicMan SUB series for new purchases or the SBMM JP and LK guitars 2nd hand. IMO find a guitar that you to play and replace the pickups with something more appropriate if required.

The RGs are that good then? The guitars I like the "look of" so far are these :

I've played a couple of RGs before and quite like them, the problem is I'm just starting out on guitar really and don't know how to distinguish from spec what I like yet like I can with bass to an extent :)

Charnel and Kramer from the '80s . I remember my guitar god friend , used these before he got an ibanez Jem.The old wash burns were great also apparently ( and not very expensive). Dean guitars are quite decent apparently . The dimebag ones are good for metal ;)

That's cool, I'd like to be able to get relatively decent clean tones too :)

They don't come much more 'rawk' than the Jem itself and they do clean nicely

GAK are doing some RG models brand new for only £359.00:

Yeah, I've managed to find one a fair bit cheaper too. Just need to sell my stuff quickly and hope it sticks around!!

Thanks for all the thoughts guys :)

I've managed to move on my gear today and I found an Ibanez RG350DXZ in BStock at Thomann for £240. With the money saved I'm upgrading the neck and bridge to Dimarzio Illuminators :D
