fleamail Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I wanted to bid on this bass which ends today but then I noticed something in one photo which is quite strange. umph Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 haha someones messed up the bridge, i think the g string is normally on the neck Quote
SJA Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 (edited) trouble is, with the bridge and pickup covers on you can't tell where the problem lies and if it's fixable. edit, looking at the other pics it looks like the bridge and the cover were installed too far to the G side. 70's Fender quality control for you. BigRedX Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Nothing wrong there - that's totally authentic for a late 70s Fender! Quote
Mokl Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 As above, I've seen that quite a lot on 70`s Fenders! Quote
Shaggy Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Looks a real nice one otherwise, especially with all its hardware (if original) You just can't beat 3TS / maple on a Fender! Quote
spinynorman Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Sometime in the last 30 years you'd think someone would have fixed it. Is it playable like that? Quote
Count Bassy Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 As he's had the neck off at least once (for the photos) is it possible that the neck hasn't gone back on quite square, hence the string alignment? Quote
warwickhunt Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 It's a 3 bolt Fender FFS... all it needs is a firm pull the other way and it'll be c*ck on! Until you knock it the other way of course Stuff like that is easily enough fixable by a competent DIYer or a straightforward job for a professional but factor in the hassle when setting your budget. Quote
Hellrazor Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Wey aye, it just needs a gook howk to straighten the neck. It's a Fender thing.... Quote

warwickhunt Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 3... 4... either way it's a piece of pants that needs fixing Quote
Alastair Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 70s fenders...never understood the appeal frankly! As said though, fairly simple fix in theory. I wouldn't buy it unless it was in person though. Quote
SJA Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 (edited)
As he's had the neck off at least once (for the photos) is it possible that the neck hasn't gone back on quite square, hence the string alignment?
from the pics of the back of the body the neck seems to line up fine with the heel block, so i'd say it's the bridge placement to blame. also if the bridge was placed right (and the neck out) , the strings wouldn't be so out of centre with the pickguard screw by the pickup cover. yep, the precision never got 3 bolts- only Jazzes and the 70's (mudbucker) Tele bass. Guest MoJo Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 (edited) I used to be able to get the strings on my Mexican Precision to do that just by pressing down on the top of the neck as I wore the guitar. Tightening the screws made no difference, it was that minute amount of play in the pocket that did it and it only needs to be a MINUTE amount. The very reason why Billy Sheehan abandoned his Precision for Yamahas (check out this at 1:38 where Billy describes the problem he had with his Precision. Thankfully my Japanese P doesn't do it. Edited August 16, 2008 by bassman2790 Quote
thepurpleblob Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 2,000 bucks! Phew! You could get a nice new one and have enough left over for a night out *with* curry! BTW.... why do old Fender owners insist on pulling the neck off to check the date. I refuse to beleive that it's not wearing the screw holes - i.e. doing damage. Leave it alone :-) Quote

Actually... that was so long ago that the music is fashionable again Quote
