natjag
I'm trying to work out a brand a strings from the colour of the silk winding at the ends. In this case it's blue (and from the 70's) I think probably La Bella. Do any of you guys know other manufacturers that use blue winding at the end. bakerster135
Light blue or dark blue? Dean Markley Blue Steels have dark blue winding, and Elites Stadium/Players have dark/light blue winding respectively. Galli strings also have a light blue wind...None of these were around in the 70s though! Are the ball-ends coloured, or just plain metal? throwoff
We had a thread like this years back, it is surprising how many BC'ers know off by heart what brands have what silks.
MiltyG565
We had a thread like this years back, it is surprising how many BC'ers know off by heart what brands have what silks.
I can usually identify a string by how it's wound at the ball end. Each brand has its own distinctive look... unless it's a white-label product, then they all look the same. The silk colour, IMO, really doesn't help, as so many have used different colours over the years, and currently many use the same colour, as we know from these threads cropping up every so often, there's normally 3 or 4 suggestions based on colour. kristinaelias
Bought 2 Rotosound sets today, Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 flatwounds RS77s 40-90s, which have pale blue silks at both ends & brass drums (see my 'Guess the flatwounds' thread for pics), &,as I'm sure will already have been mentioned, Rotosound Swing bass 66 roundwounds RS66LDs 45-105s have red silk at both ends & brass drums.
