silky13
.... Is there anything else I should look at. I love the sound is can get out of the Sansamp and its built like a tank. Since I am working abroad I wanted to get another so I have one in UK and one abroad (for headphone practice) So is there something better, cheaper or just different I should look at? Any advice much appreciated!
Ant
vt bass DI can cop similar sounds but has more mids and is more versatile
uncle psychosis
The behringer bdi21 is basically a clone of the sansamp at a fraction of the price. I also really like the hartke bass attack. On a slightly different note, the zoom b3 is excellent fun for headphone practice.
fretmeister
I much prefer the VT Bass-DI The mid control is very useful, and the B15 recommended setting is just brilliant!
MacDaddy
http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bdi2000.htm This looks interesting, good reviews and cheap.
wateroftyne
EBS Microbass II. It's a SansAmp with more features that doesn't suck mids. Fantastic, but a bit more pricey...
paul_5
Hartke bass attack - there's one on here for sale on here too... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/257181-various-effects-for-sale/

Lozz196
vt bass DI can cop similar sounds but has more mids and is more versatile

The behringer bdi21 is basically a clone of the sansamp at a fraction of the price.
Both pretty much spot on. The Behringer is a great bit of kit, and at around £30 has to be worth a punt. I really like the Aguilar Tonehammer, although it`s not that much less than the Sansamp.
silky13
Cheers for the replies guys, got my work cut out to check out all these alternatives! :-)
rmorris
Given that the OP is happy with the BDDI the obvious answer has to be a BD121 - sound is very very similar (I think the circuit uses slightly different opamps ) You lose the ruggedness and like Phantom Power but are left with £100+in your wallet. dannybuoy
Given that you play metal - Darkglass B7K.
Black Coffee
Behringer BD121 is an obvious choice. Buy about seven of them for the price of a programmable sansamp pedal.
CamdenRob
Go for another sansamp.. I had the behringer unit and it was great and amazing value but it wasn't quite the same. A sansamp is pretty much standard kit.
FinnDave
I played through a Sansamp (into our PA) for the first time yesterday. Hard to convince myself I wasn't playing through a high end amp & cab.
discreet
Another vote for the VT Bass. Very versatile and sounds killer.
Bankai
I have the MXR M80 which I rather like. Never had a chance to try a different one such as the Sansamp so can't compare, but I'd suggest giving the M80 a try if there's a store near you that has one. booboo
Any love for the Dave Hall Amps stuff? Real tubes too as well as sweepable mids. Edited March 14, 2015 by booboo

Black Coffee
Should maybe endorse the darkglass vintage too. Given the choice Id prefer this to the B3k. But that's just me.
dannybuoy
Yep, Vintage Deluxe is perhaps more suitable than the B7K, just checked out the OP's band which is 70s rock covers!
stuckinthepod
[sup]I just bought a Hartke Bass Attack, £73 on Amazon. Very pleased and there's certainly more sounds in it than the Behringer BDI.[/sup] Edited March 23, 2015 by stuckinthepod
