Marvin
Actually I've had this bass for about a week now, it just took me a while to get around to taking some pictures of it. I might add, taking pictures of a black bass is quite difficult There's been a bit of a stir about these new basses, here and on Talkbass, so after seeing a very positive review by former lurker of basschat, OutToPlayJazz, I decided to take the plunge. These basses are not expensive, about the same as the upper Squiers, so in the region of £300+. I ordered the bass late on a Thursday, from Thomann, it arrived early Wednesday morning, well packaged. Out of the box I was very impressed. The finish if very good, no blemishes, no sharp frets, everything feels solid and well put together. The tuners feel tight as do the control knobs - nothing sloppy in the knobs . The jack socket on mine is as tight as Scrouge. I could jump up and down all night on the cable to the bass and it probably wouldn't come out. The neck for me though is great. The neck is the thing I really like on this bass, not as skinny as my Ibanez, which worried me a bit, but in fact I prefer it's profile. Really well finished and feels great to play. I haven't adjusted the action at all and there are no buzzes or rattles. Plugged in, this, to my ears, is a modern sounding Jazz bass. In passive you can get a more vintage sound, but to me you still have that modern sounding edge. Perhaps it's the really new zingy strings Personally I think it does have a Miller imprint in the sound. This bass is loud, I had to turn the volume on my amp down a couple of notches. The EQ control lets you have some considerable control over tone. On other actives I have it's more a case of fine tuning, on this, especially with the sweepable mid control, you can do...well, all sorts. I think Sire and Marcus Miller have achieved what they set out to do, produce a very good quality instrument at an affordable price. I'm not going to say or compare it with much more expensive basses, I feel I've got a very good bass for what I paid. It's now my go to bass http://marcusmillerbysire.com/marcusmiller/page/marcus_v7.html Edited March 6, 2015 by Marvin
miles'tone
Congratulations! Lovely looking bass. I've just been looking at these this very afternoon (online that is) and I must say these are the first J basses that Have caught my eye for a long time. I love the idea of that pre :-) I'm constantly amazed at the quality of relatively inexpensive instruments these days (proud owner of a Squier Vm) Is it a heavy bass out of interest? Marvin
The 4 string weigh approx 9.5lbs. I think that's similar to a Squier CV Jazz, maybe a couple of oz's more than a Squier VM. I own lighter basses, but the V7 sits nicely on a strap and is comfortable. I played for 3 hours at practice the other night and only put the bass down once for about 10mins. Drax
Happy new bass..week! Still wondering when I'm going to read a bad review, Sire seem to have nailed this. V7 5 incoming later this month but can't decide the finish. What's with the autograph? Thought that was just US / Sire direct versions only. Will you do anything to protect that? Marvin
I was chuffed to get a signed one...perhaps just a fluke. It's got a plastic film over the neck plate to protect it, if that comes off though I'll have to figure something else out
discreet
You were lucky to get a signed one. Having said that, I'm not sure how many he signed... looks like a really nice Jazz. So tempting - I love the white one with maple neck (surprise!). Have to wait for a while though, it's on the list... maybe later this summer. Congratulations on your new baby! I know you did proper research before pulling the trigger, so thanks for doing that so we don't have to! I'm sure these are going to be very successful. Sue Ryder basses they are not. Though there's nothing wrong with those either - at the price point... Seems like the tone circuit makes it very versatile indeed... could be the weapon of choice for function, event and cover band bass players..? Marvin
Thank you everyone. I can only speak from personal preference and experience...I really do like this bass. I sincerely do hope anyone who decides to pull the trigger on one of these is as happy as I am with it.
geoffbyrne
I'd probably replace the signed plate & keep it safe for if & when the day comes to part with it. G.

UglyDog
Cool. Tell you what I'd do with said signed neck-plate... I'd get one of them small box picture frames, mount the plate in there on some 2-sided tape and hang it on the wall somewhere but then again, I'm odd like that. It's what happens when you spend your days eating bones and licking your own jewels. Edited March 11, 2015 by UglyDog
