franzbassist
I think the first year of use was 1966 and they were done for the most part by 1968. That said, I had a '71 P which had them fitted.

Cairobill
That's very interesting - clover machine heads on a lefty late 70s precision?
patch006
What are the standard ones called?
3below
Very elegant with the large 'lollipop' heads and curved edges on baseplate.
HowieBass
AFAIK the standard ones are the 'clover' type; yours are often called 'lollipop'.

ukulelelab
Lollipop tuners first appeared on Jazz basses in '65 and precision / Telecaster basses in '67. They were made in house. There was also a smaller version on short scale basses around the same time (Coronados and Mustangs). Fender discontinued them in '68. Very hard to come by.
