DunRockin
Hi all, Just wondering if anyone in the UK has found a readily available aerosol paint spray can colour that's reasonably similar to yer Sonic Blue once it's sprayed on primer. I've found a few pale blues at the usual DIY chains (Wilko, B and Q, etc) but the colour on the can may not be what it actually looks like sprayed on, so I'm wondering if anyone's actually used anything that proved a half decent, inexpensive substitute... Cheers, Dave.
KK Jale
Not personally, but Halfords etc paints can be dodgy on wood. Do check out http://www.mancheste...hop/sonic-blue/ and indeed that whole site. Bit more spendy but with proper prep it'll come out far better than DIY chain aerosols. Edited March 11, 2015 by KK Jale
Jimryan
Best bet is halfords, I used halfords paint on one of my resprays with no problems at all. My stingray respray has a light blue primer coat (primer and colour in one can), might not be pale enough for what you're after though. Check in my build thread and if it's what you're after I'll find out the colour I bought.
tonybassplayer
Or alternatively look out for a car that has the nearest colour ( including older cars, plenty of forums ) and try the relevant dealer or club. Most cars built still have paint available for them no matter how old.
Rumple
This place on Ebay say they will mix any colour if you give them the code, as suggested above find a car you like the colour of then get them to mix it for you. Both Austin and Ford did cars in a pale blue in the 60's that might be what you are after. JapanAxe
This might be close - Plastikote Project Enamel, sky blue, about £3 for a small spray can from Wilko. Here's what it looks like on a DIY pedal (no primer used, straight onto bare aluminium): Edited March 11, 2015 by JapanAxe
BigRedX
Slightly off topic... Who comes up with the names for these colours? "Sonic" blue to me seems to be about as far removed from a colour I would think of as sonic as it's possible to get. More like weedy pastel blue. darkandrew
http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/shop/sonic-blue/ +1 for Manchester Guitar Tech - I've used them before and can recommend them.
