Johnebass Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I have a Lakland 55-01 (maple board) with Fat Stacks and an OBP-3. Although it sounds nice it's a little too transparent for me and I was looking for a darker/thicker/fatter sound if you know what I mean. Not sure whether to change the pre-amp or pickups or both. Maybe the new Aguilar soapbar? Any comments would be appreciated. John Quote
Guinness21 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I've been lusting after a 55-01 with fat stacks and an obp-3! I play a stingray, and looking for something a bit meatier. May well go for a p bass but tried an Ibanez with Big Singles which I loved, then tried the fat stacks and properly loved them! Sorry I was of no help lol Quote
Japhet Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I put a John East preamp in my Stingray a while back and just love it. Sounds grittier and more responsive to me. Going to do the same with my 55 01 as soon as I have a few quid to spare. Will leave the Bart pickups in it for starters. Quote
chris_b Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 If you want a fuller sound on your 55-01, try a good set of flatwound strings. Quote
