Bucket Head
hi guys, hope its OK to post this here. Bought this a week ago at a car boot. thought it looked interesting and was possibly some kind of Valve testing jig. I've been looking into doing valve replacement and amp repair and thought it might come in useful if it was (and it was only a 5er). Anyway I've been looking all over trying to find out what it is and no luck! was hoping one of you guys might know something about it. cheers BH
planer
I would suggest that looks like a kit-built valve amp, sans valves. Sorry, I can't be more help though. Looks like a good find for a boot sale :-)

Bucket Head
ahhhh ok cool. so i guess that the 3 valve slots would be for a rectifier, preamp and power?
3below
Looks like an amplifier to me, some pretty substantial transformers in it. Very well built, very tidy. The price was right a good buy, buy of the year in fact. Need to get a multimeter and start probing - what HT (B+) voltages is it set up for. With that info we can work out what valves it will work with. Nice project. Edited March 14, 2015 by 3below
gelfin
Looks like a mono Hi Fi power amp. RCA phono input socket and standard speaker binding posts. No volume control. Post the pics on a Hi Fi forum.
Dad3353
Could it be an RF amp, for driving a radio transmitter aerial..? Short wave, or similar..?
JapanAxe
Could it be an RF amp, for driving a radio transmitter aerial..? Short wave, or similar..?
If it's an RF amp, I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to fire it up and start poking around - RF burns can be pretty nasty. bartelby
There's about £100 worth of Mundorf capacitors in there. I've seen that layout of mono block before, but can't remember where.
