bassix Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I've been working with one bass since the turn of the year and have found myself lusting after a second bass to add some variety to the tone, enter the Squier Vintage Modified PJ. I'd been hawking basschat for the last 2 weeks but I spotted this on Gumtree today and got myself round sharpish to take a look and what can I say, I took it home! The description said it was as new and he was spot on, not a mark on the thing. Its the quality that I found impressive though, the neck feels wonderful in the hand, almost as nice as my Nate Mendel perhaps. Its also perfectly balanced and the custom scratchplate and ashtray aren't bad either! I have heard lots of praise from here and our neighbours across the pond on these basses but I felt that it was probably unwarranted and probably only good "for the price". This has truly blown my expectations out of the water. The only real downside is the pickups sound weaker than the SPB3's in the NM which is to be expected. The Jazz p/up however seems particularly flat and not adding much to the tone when added or subtracted. No matter as I intend to change these over to a pair of Kent Armstrongs I've had knocking around for a couple of years anyway. All in all well chuffed with the buy, thats that itch scratched for now.. Now for your viewing pleasure.. [attachment=186583:pj.jpg] [attachment=186582:pj (1).jpg] Quote
madshadows Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Great looking bass, fantastic colour, like the pick guard a lot Congrats on the bass John Quote
bassix Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Cheers John, just spent the afternoon playing it and writing new songs, making me very happy! Quote
Funky Dunky Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 My main bass is a Squier VMPJ and they are just a treat to play. I agree with your assessment of the pickups though - they should be better, even at that pricepoint. Enjoy your new bass :-) Quote
