Maude
Has anyone tried these gut strings? Crazy cheap bass strings or expensive shoelaces? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=121590951779&alt=web
AndyBass
I noticed they'd made a renewed assault on EBay earlier. I've not tried them personally. I know someone who plays them and likes them, but he does say they take a little work. There are some threads on them through the last few years on Talkbass if you google them. sarah thomas
Looks like you get what you pay for. Soak them in almond oil, fine sand them with wet and dry, shave off burrs with a cut throat razor, play them in for a few months and you'll be fine! [/quote] Yes I read that post after Andybass mentioned TB, it doesn't look good does it. But having said that, if they are good strings after all the faffing I could fit them to my EUB for practice at home and once run in transfer them to my gigging DB, but I doubt they are good once played in. I imagined they wouldn't be good but you just never know.
slap_it_hard
I have them on a double bass & they sound great, but, as with all plain guts, the E is a little flappy. Yes, they take some prepping!
