matt-bass-sparkes Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hellloooo. I have an Orange Terror Bass 500w head. It's awesome and I love it. Only problem is that when I want to get a bit more crunch from the gain knob, the output signal through the DI seems to peak too much at the desk. The signal seems to be way too hot. Is there something that I can do like put something like a volume control between the DI out, and the desk? The volume control on the amp doesn't seem to make any difference to the DI out... Just the gain. Anyone else had this with other amps? Ta! Matt Quote
Adrenochrome Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Yes, some DI Boxes will do this with attentuation: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/DI20.aspx I think some you can rung from a speaker output as well if that works better. Quote
Bankai Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 A common fix to this on the OTB was to replace the 12AX7 valves with 12AT7 ones. As they had a lesser gain you got a more usable range of tones, plus it cleared up the DI output. Quote
davehux Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 It's a well known 'feature' of the early TB500's Seems that an attenuator is a quick and easy solution http://basschat.co.uk/topic/72133-orange-terror-bass-di/ Quote
bassmachine2112 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 hiho,it seems the early ones were hot on the DI.There is a fix from Orange for this. Later ones are no problem ,never had an issue from soundman with mine. Attenuator is an easy fix Quote
KK Jale Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 As said above. I keep a -30dB inline attenuator in the bag pocket. Works fine. Quote
Tee Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015
As said above. I keep a -30dB inline attenuator in the bag pocket. Works fine.
Same here, i have a -40dB inline attenuator, but i also swapped out the 12AX7s for NOS 12AT7s soon after, which improved the amp's tone to my taste. Quote
Chest Rockwell Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I also swapped the valves and bought a 5 quid attenuator. no more soundman complaints Quote
