molan
I always liked the, wonderfully named, Leon F Sylvers III with both Shalamar and The Whispers in the 80's. There's some live 80's footage kicking around where the bassist is using an Ibanez Blazer but whether that was just for live use I couldn't say - also, because during ha time he was in demand as a songwriter and producer he may not have played live. Doesn't sound like a Rick on the albums to me though
timhiggins
I think your right it sounds to me like a p bass with the tone up ,but it wouldnt be the first time i was wide of the mark ! I gather he also played and produced ',The beat goes on ' by the whispers which seems to have similar bass sound and another impeccable line, he really is quality ! mentalextra
Sorry for hijacking your thread but did he play 'its a love thing' by The Whispers too?
JTUK
If I had to guess, I'd say a P bass

Spoombung
I've heard he played a Rick with a pick but it sounds like a P bass with muting at the bridge. Wish I knew for sure

iconic
One tasty player....check out the bassline to Make That Move....fantastic. ...there were some brillliant up in the mix bassists back then. ....Sylver's sound seems too smooth for a Rick and no jazz nasalness......I'd put a fiver on P too. Spoombung
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pEmX5HR9ZxU Surely one of the greatest bass lines ever? According to some this was played with a pick even though it sounds very B. Edwards
