blue
What is the quality and quantity of opportunities in the London area. Is it mostly start ups, or are there opening with bands that are established with paying gigs? Blue
ahpook
A lot of people move to London to try and 'make it' so a lot of adverts may seem to be younger bands starting out, yes....but it's a city of 8 million people - there's almost everything ! discreet
8.615 million as of February 2015... how many of the extra .615 million are musicians, I couldn't tell you. Edit: This number is equal to the highest ever population figure for London - in 1939, just before WWII. blue
Well, obviously better than Milwaukee just by sheer numbers. For publicly advertised, good opportunities for rock bass guitarists, you could watch the ads for months on end with no worthwhile opportunities to pursue. I think the key phrase here might be, "publicly advertised". Blue

There's a lot of 'word of mouth' and, if you've got those connections, there's little point in advertising. I've had a pretty constant 35 years and never looked at an ad. CamdenRob
I put a 'Bassist available' advert up on gumtree a week or so back as one of my projects had recently ended and I fancied something new. I've had 30 odd replies so far and I was pretty specific in what I wanted (no covers, nothing with basslines already written, not looking to be the next rock superstar etc.) about five of those were interesting and I have an audition tonight for one of them. Its never been easier in London to hook up with people and play original music. No idea about working covers bands though, not really my area.
In a way the originals route for the most part is easier. When You take money out of the equation it's usually easier. It is over here, as originals gigs are far and few in between and rarely involve paid gigs. Blue
