Silvia Bluejay Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Thanks guys! The Basschat column is Joel McIver's brainchild, and I'm happy to be providing it to the mag, and spreading the word about this community. Watch that space Quote
Drax Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Copy arrived today - looks good! A whole page as well. Looking forward to seeing how this develops. Fair play to Joel for giving this platform. Quote
Lozz196 Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015
Woo hoo, well done Sylvia! :-)
Yep, well done Sylvia, great to see Basschat in BGM. Quote
Fisheth Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 Gonna pop down to my local Smiths to get this if Morrisons don't have it when I look tomorrow! Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 Thank you all for your kind words! The printed mag hits the shelves on Tuesday 5th (my birthday!) - you won't find it before then. Subscribers received the paper issue in the mail a couple of days ago. Quote
leonshelley01 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Got my copy in Whsmiths yesterday, congrats on a good article! Quote
silverfoxnik Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015
such a cloud of negativity... congratulations to BlueJay
+1 Quote
Machines Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I can't promise I'll buy it, but will certainly read the column in WHSmith. #thisisnotalibrary Quote
CamdenRob Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Picked up a copy at the corner shop yesterday purely for the BC column. Good stuff bluejay, looking forward to more pearls of wisdom in the future Quote
iamtheelvy Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Hey, just arrived. Do I get cake now? I think this is a good move, and congrats to Silvia for being recognised for her journalistic skills! The magazine has ups and downs, but I still find it an entertaining read. If nothing else, this column should raise the profile of Basschat in the wider bass community. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Well commiserations to Sylvia. As a media personality myself, I am well acquainted with the topsy turvy machinations of feeding the fickle public's taste. However nothing prepared me for the horror of this month's Basschat Column in BGM. I can say no more at this juncture but suffice to say, if it was me I would be consulting my team of legal advisors....... Quote
yorks5stringer Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I would expect a complaint to the Press Council (or whatever Lizard Dave has put in it's place) from Sylvia at the very least. Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 Basschat article exactly as before! And New contributors, and a legend on the cover and in the main feature Quote
yorks5stringer Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 You have to admire Gene Simmond's chutzpah, he admits his Axe Basses cost $250 to make and he sells them for $5000 signed by himself. Quote
Rich Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 If by 'admire his chutzpah' you mean 'think he is a complete and utter knob', then yes you're absolutely right. Quote
CamdenRob Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015
Basschat article exactly as before!
The BC column is a good read as usual bluejay we must have gained some members as a result of your efforts? Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) Thanks Rob! The article has the same number of words, but limited magazine space and the addition of some new contributors has dictated the axing of my photo, which in a sense is a relief. After all, if people keep reading the Basschat column from now on, at least it won't be because of the (rather superannuated)-girlie-with-a-bass pic. I can't say whether BC has gained any more members than it would have without the article, or if BGM has gained any extra subscribers, but neither was the aim of the exercise. What Joel wanted primarily was to strengthen the relationship between BC and BGM, and spread the word about both as widely as possible. That we are certainly achieving. pete.young Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I like the idea of an acoustic bass roundup. If you could herd them all into a corner or a pen it would be so much easier to make sure none escape the flamethrower . Quote
