A P/J for Davy

Yes the idea was to have a bridge pickup fitted at some stage but I'm going to gig it for a while before I decide whether to go ahead with that.

I'm not going to relic this one but I probably would have if I'd ended up with a white body. There are a couple of dings on the body anyway and I'm sure it'll pick up a few more along the way so that will be roadworn enough for me!

Not sure on the make of the neck but I bought it off Rumple so I'm sure he could let us know. It's a precision profile neck but it doesn't feel massive and that's from someone coming from a super thin Ibanez SR500!

It's one of these and very nice it was too but I couldn't get on with the neck profile and replaced it with a Jazz neck.

Ah, I see
Mind you, I can't believe how necks can vary so much
There seems to be more difference in recent years
Once upon a time, a P neck was a P neck

Now they seem to vary in width, depth and radius.....
My old 70's P had a hugely chunky neck
I bought a US P the other day (woo hoo NBD) and the neck is nice,
wider than my Jazz, wider than my Mex / Bitsa P

But not as wide as my old P
and comfortably shallow front-to-back... hmmm

I too had an Ibanez SR500 Davy
Lovely bass, and hugely under-rated IMHO
However, I grew away from liking the very slim neck,
and particularly, as I prefer finger-style playing rather than plectrum
I prefer the string spacing of a Fender, for my right hand....

Gig the bass for now, and carefully think before adding a bridge pickup
I'm sure you'll prefer the sound, and the flexibility
but you need to take care, not to damage the body of the bass, when routing out space for the pickup & wiring etc

Good luck with it :)
