Kenny Gair
Hi all! Ok, when switching between an active bass to a passive bass (TRB5p to Fender JB), there's a considerable drop in volume. Now, getting to my amp on a crowded stage isn't always possible so it can be a bit of a pain. I did try one of the sansamp programmable DI boxes (VT bass) pedals but I never really got on that well with it and sold it eventually. I guess I'm not really looking for a pedal that will colour my sound, more give it a lift. Perhaps programmable EQ? Any thoughts? I love this place
HowieBass
I've never used one but I wonder if a clean boost pedal would do the job for you?
ColinB
It sounds like you want a clean boost pedal - or an e/q pedal with a gain control. There are zillions to choose from at every price point from about £20 and up.
dannybuoy
Some use the Source Audio programmable EQ for this very task, although a clean boost or the opposite (e.g. EHX Signal Pad) is a much simpler approach. The signal pad might be a good bet if you have pedals in your chain that don't respond well to high output basses, you can bring it down to match the level of the passive bass. dincz
Are there any trim pots on the Yam's preamp board? If not, a decent tech could do a simple mod to pad down its output level. A couple of resistors and 10 minutes work should do it.
Kenny Gair
Think I'm going to have a look at the source audio pedal although the trim pots is a great idea.....why didn't I think of that...doh! I've only had the bass for 25 years, it should have dawned on me by now lol
uncle psychosis
Set the amp up for the output from the passive bass and then turn the volume down on the active one so the levels match?
