grumpyguts
Does anyone have any knowledge of the Toneman heads on Thomann? £253 for 600w looks very tempting...
RandomBass
Id say it is an Ashdown MAG 600 with a different name, especially for Thomann. I rate the MAG highly, had one for few years, was reliable, better tone than the ABM imo and certainly loud enough through Barefaced cabs. It never missed a beat. discreet
£253 for 600w looks very tempting...
It certainly does... not exactly lightweight at 10kg, but nowhere near all-valve weight.
JapanAxe
That's a lot of bang for buck! 10kg is quite manageable I'd say.
discreet
Maybe couple it with with the £289 Toneman 8X10 for an affordable touring rig..? JapanAxe
Are we sure these aren't Behringer with an Ashdown badge?
grumpyguts
I spose the only problem is I don't really need 600w at 4 ohms, it results in cab issues I probably don't need. I wonder what it would give at 8 ohms... Looked on the Ashdown website and there is no mention; is this possibly some Thomann only deal? They had a similar deal about a year ago when they were called something different but still Thoman related. I would imagine that they are the same heads rebadged and as Thoman has such buying power, they get them for a good price.
grenadilla
It is a worthy amp if it is a MAG 600, renamed. I have the EVO1 version with carpet covering, no compressor or overdrive. Also a EVO3 with tolex, chrome corners, compressor, and overdrive. Get it while you can because it is an "old school" solid state amp with no valves to worry about. GCYPbass
Looks like a good price. So anybody here tried one yet? What is the sound like? Edited April 25, 2016 by GCYPbass
Marvin
I'd say they we're rebadged MAGs that Ashdown may have done a deal on, wanted to move on as they're now promoting the newer RootMaster range. A lot of amp for £
Chienmortbb
They did the same thing with the Superbly I seem to remember.

grumpyguts
I didn't get it, purchased a Hartke LH500 instead. This makes noise via Warwick 1x15 & 2x10.

grumpyguts
No probs with the Hartke, loud / clean / simple - all good. I can't really compare it to anything else; as a "returning" bass player it's the first amp I have had since a 1985 Carlsbro Cobra 90...
