floFC Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I was at Wunjo yesterday and they have a brand new Sandberg Marlowe DK. I am not into relic'ing at all, but I have to say it was really well done on this particular bass and the "ageing" looked pretty natural, except... the pick guard is brand new (and may even have had protective plastic on it). Why is that? Is the pick guard the last taboo that cannot be broken (or grazed/burnt/hacksawed)? Quote
Sammers Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 That's odd, I've got a hardcore aged Jazz from Sandberg and the pick guard is relic'd to match the body/neck. Maybe the Marlowe DK model is spec'd this way? Quote
floFC Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 Maybe I didn't pay enough attention and it just wasn't as aged as I would have expected it to be, given the state of the rest of the bass I didn't try it or anything. Quote
fretmeister Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 All sandberg relics have 3 level options. Soft Hardcore Masterpiece. Soft doesn't have any neck or guard relicing. Hardcore has guard and headstock and some neck colouring. Masterpiece does the entire neck in great detail - that's why Masterpiece costs loads more. I've got a Hardcore and the guard is definitely done. Quote
bubinga5 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 im not into relicing but man Sandberg do it well. there absolute masters at it. Quote
patrikmarky Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Just done a deal on a Sandberg heavy relic ...I wasn't a fan but I love the sound so I don't care... Quote

[/quote] That's what matters the most at the end of the day. And like I said it actually looked pretty realistic on the DK. Quote
