lou24d53
I've never owned one, never gigged one and apart from a ten minute try out last month at the Moffat Bass Bash, hardly even had a shot of one... But I WANT one, like, really, REALLY want one...a single H, in white or buttercream with a maple neck...has to be a maple neck... Feel the credit card straining already!!! Linus27
Amazing basses but also a bit marmite. I adore mine but I do feel more comfortable playing a Precision or a Jazz. Will always own one as they are amazing.

Woodinblack
Sometimes I am glad of trying things. I really wanted on for a while, then tried a 70s Stingray and hated it with a passion - killed the desire stone dead. Which concerns me as I would really like a G&L M2500 (or maybe a M2000), but what happens if I feel the same way. Never seen one in a shop. lou24d53
Haha, I know... I also know I'll probably struggle with the neck profile as well, but it's still not helping... I keep looking at pics on the Internet and feeling......funny.....fnarr, fnarr... 😜😎

ezbass
One of Leo's 'trinity of bass', a fine, fine bass. However, it doesn't seem like you need any more persuading.

I have enjoyed playing them but for me they are not in the league of the price they are. I mean, if they were the 5-800 region, that would be fine and I would probably have one, but they don't really have the 'special' that I would need to pay over £1000. But maybe it is because the 'made in america' thing doesn't really have that much sway for me.
Woodinblack
Stingrays though - I can see why you would pay for one of those. Neck too big for me, but if it wasn't, it would still be tempting.

lou24d53
Yup, think I'll be an owner sooner rather than later. Be warned, there are some predatory people on here waiting to pounce on the vulnerable!! 😀😎
AndyTravis
I've had three. Think the next one will have to have a covered pole piece pickup (Emg or Duncan) as I've established that my right hand playing position on a stingray means I catch the polepieces with my fingertips and get a nasty set of marks on my fingers. ambient
I had a 5 string one, and I tried a friends really old Pre-what-ever 4 string one a few times. Personally I've never gotten on with them, they've just never sounded right when I've played them. My friends bass sounds amazing when he plays it, but totally different when I do. Woodinblack
Just stick some black insulating tape over the top of them, that will stop it.
Cameronj279
I know how you feel. I wouldn't mind one...without a huge neck though
lou24d53
I like thin Jazz necks as well, got a Fender Am Vintage Jazz, Lakland Dudepit JO and Lakland Decade...all thin necks...but I think I need to go for it, give it a go...if it doesn't work out, I'll move it on!! ern500evo
The SLO models have a smaller neck profile, if that helps sway you! 😀

Bass Pedal Geek
Just do it! The Stingray was Leo Fender's Strike 3 (not counting in the guitars here). Total classic design. I used to only play Jazz type basses for many years, but have really discovered the beauty, punch and fatness the humbucker basses give you and that includes the Precision too :-)
40hz
Lotta love for Stingrays here, however if I ever bought another it would have to be a satin or gloss finished SLO neck. Not a fan of the standard unfinished neck profile. Edited April 12, 2015 by 40hz
