Norm
The ones I've looked into going to sadly seem to have overlooked these important elements in favour of tea and cakes... Hoping to get along to the next hearts bash. Would love one somewhere accessable in Central London, but I'm too lazy to organise it...
The Dorset/Somerset bass bashes are always in a pub, gear in the skittle alley/ back room, basschattery over a pint in the bar, oo arr! Haven't made it to them all but no finer way to spend an afternoon IMO!

Marc S
It all depends what you want to make it, and what the other attendees want to make of it If you want to all just sit in a circle and play at each other, then it may well be sh*te But I've been to a few local bass bashes and I've enjoyed meeting other local bass players, having a play with their basses, and tried a few guitars and amps I might never have tried otherwise Meeting up with other players, and having a good chin-wag comparing notes and exchanging a few jokes far from being sh*te - it's been a really pleasant experience for me Hope you find the same
Silvia Bluejay
So, basically, it's group socialising... which is HORRIBLE anyway and to be avoided at all costs. Seriously though, if people enjoy it then good for them... I was mainly curious as kept seeing posts advertising them but the Events forum doesn't have any information either as a sticky or in the OPs of the threads. It's just sort of assumed people would know what to expect.
Ye man of little faith, do peruse the first link in my signature... Silvia Bluejay
The main problem for central London is the availability of a school or similar at an affordable price, I think. As well as, possibly, parking spaces/fees.

TheGreek
What the hell is a Bass Bash??? Loads of bloody hard work arranging the venue, speakers, seminars, raffle prizes and helpers.. What else??? A chance to put faces to avatars, try out gear that you might not otherwise ever see, never mind play...a chance to have real conversations with people who have a genuine interest in the same things as I am...a chance to have a laugh and a joke with like-minded people and to raise money for meaningful charities.. Having attended 3x SE bashes and arranged the 2x previous Bashes in Herts I can tell you that they are generally well attended and enjoyed events - normally get positive feedback and thanks for the effort we put in. Not sure how you can have an opinion till you've actually been to one(or more).

yorks5stringer
I'd like to offer the following seminar for future Bass Bashes. Entitled "Truss Rod Keys through the Ages" it is a " witty and informative "(Trollhaten Book Group, over 75's) look at Truss Rod keys I have owned. It starts back when I was 18 and got my first Bass (a Gibson EB2) and comes right up to date with my Deco Harley Benton. I span the decades talking about Truss Rod Stewart, Lynn Truss, and even Surgical Truss Rods. I detour via my time as an intern to a Luthier with amusing anecdotes on how I replaced the Truss Rod in a 62 Precision Bass with a threaded bolt and we sold it on eBay for £25k. There is a quick fire "Guess the Truss Rod Key" quiz where I brandish a truss rod key from my collection of over 200 and contestants have to guess the make and size. The Winner receives a specially engraved Truss rod key. I also delve into Fodera Truss Rods which are hand engraved with butterfly emblems and ask "Are they worth £11,000?" This 4 hour seminar can be augmented with my collection of toe-nail clippings in a sweet jar from age 15 (TBH they just look like desiccated coconut although the top layer are a bit gnarly). Additional interest can be added with my jar of ear wax also. These seminars are available to anyone contemplating a Bass Bash who feels that looking at Basses and Amps and talking about them would be a bit rubbish. I should add that I can only offer these seminars to venues with a 35mm Carousel slide projector, a flat white wall and a Gestener machine for printing the handouts.
