bootsy666 Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 I'm not familiar with the wins program? I might just put another two 2-3" ports in the front? Quote
bootsy666 Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015
Have you used a modelling program like WinISD to figure out the size and shape of the ports in the front? That should be your first port of call when trying to work the area and length of ports to use - they're not just vents to reduce heat. I wonder how much heat the drivers will actually produce - If that's a VBA400 in the picture, each driver would only be handling 50 watts at full output, so perhaps heat won't be such a big issue.
The vba 400 is the amp I will be using with it. I've installed stereo inputs aswell as a mono input, so I have the option of running it with 2 amps if needed. Quote

chevy-stu Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Assume it's built with air capacity specs of the drivers your gonna use in mind . Quote
3below Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) With One VBA 400 and Barefaced Dubster (2 x 15) I could (can) make the concrete slab and walls of the hall (900 + capacity) I rehearse in vibrate. A most odd sensation feeling the concrete foundation raft move - the earth did move for me Not sure what that says about 1950's construction. What the 8x15 and 2 VBAs used in full tilt will do will be interesting to say the least. I await the BBC news later this year! http://www.lineartea.../?pageid=winisd - input the Thiele-Small parameters (from Celstion website) and cab dimensions.. Application will tell you what port sizes, airflows, frequency response the cabinet will theoretically give. Edited April 14, 2015 by 3below Quote
Number6 Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 So are we saying the Underworld may just cave in when you use this in June? Quote
bootsy666 Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 So far each speaker has a 2" hole to vent the heat, I will add a few more at the weekend to be safe. Quote

SolomonHelsing Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 And I wonder if i'm going to have space issues with a fearless f212 compared to a f115 on small pub gigs.... Looking forward to seeing/hearing this complete... I think... Quote
CamdenRob Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) Asides from potential venting issues etc and the undoubted epic weight of this thing, I'd love to see / hear it when it's built... folly or not sometimes it's fun to build something for the sake of it Edited April 15, 2015 by CamdenRob Quote
HazBeen Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) Subscribed to this...... a thing of beauty and magnitude, although I have some question marks on if it will also sound as good. WINISD required and some "specialist" opinion I would suggest. Edited April 15, 2015 by HazBeen Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 It might be a good idea to post about this in the Amps & Cabs section. There are several posters there who are often helpful on the subject of cab design, and I'm not sure if they read the other bits of Basschat. Although I would hazard a guess that one or two of them will be a bit bemused by the whole idea, you might get some useful input along the way! Quote

alexclaber Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 This should be quite entertaining to crank up loud! If you can face hauling it into central Brighton then we can run some tests on it if you like. If I hear a rumble from the west I'll know you've got it up and running... Quote

Matt P Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 that's a beast, 40kg of drivers alone! I'd make sure that the stage can take it before you haul it down there, with the added weight of a VBA400 (or 2!) and then the vibrations, this could end up through the floor! how much does the empty cab weigh? Matt Quote

grenadilla Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Lovely cabinet! I recommend 4" casters. I got some for a 410 and they are rated at 250lbs. each. (for a cabinet up to 1,000 lbs.) Quote
