Jaco944
Thank you! I checked there again and realized I had missed the logo description for the SLM Korean Westones. I don't know why it even matters, this thing is built like a tank and sounds and plays great. It's a little pointy for my old school tastes but I'm digging it. badboy1984
I've got the westone thunder 1A fretless. Play nice but I'm not too keen on the active mode consider is bass boost and cut treble or treble boost and cut bass ..... Also it takes 2x 9v battery. I use my as passive mode. alyctes
definitely too pointy for my taste, but I'm still curious
HowieBass
I've got the westone thunder 1A fretless.
I've got a Spectrum LX which I think has the same EQ as the Thunder 1A - a passive treble cut tone pot and the active tone pot which seems to be a semi-parametric control with a boost that's sweepable from high treble right down to deep bass. In active mode I tend to favour passive tone fully open and boosting the bass somewhat.
anzoid
Looks exacty like the Spectrum Series II that I had back in 1990 - apart from the colour and the fact mine had two pickups. Everything else - including the logo and the large screws at the neck joint looks the same. I think mine may have had one extra tone knob and a 3-position switch to choose between the pickups. The bridge may have been slightly different but I can't really remember - haven't seen that bass in over 20 years It was a passive bass that looked, in fact, like this one: http://www.westone.info/spectrumIIbass.html but had open pole pieces and the logo like yours. To get that all black look on the pickups I coloured in the pole pieces with black fibre-tipped pen What I do remember was that it was heavy and sounded pretty rubbish through the Laney 65W Linebacker combo I had at the time - but I think that might have been the combo. Have often looked out for a Series II but this is the first I've seen in a long long time. Have fun with it.
anzoid
Additional: clicking through to http://www.westone.i...ctrum2bass.html shows the Series II with the logo as found on your bass - so the logo appears to be the UK only version. Yours looks to be the SPB102BK. The only thing missing is the model name on the front of the headstock - which is slightly odd I suppose. Mine was the SPB221... anyone got one for sale? Bassassin
Looks like a SPB102 Speccy II: http://www.westone.info/cats/88/p7.html I think the SLM (Saint Louis Music) Westones are US-market models, some are a bit different to UK versions. Jaco944
Thanks for all the info guys. It may be pointy and "blacker than black" but I'm gonna leave my Fender Jazz at home and gig with it next weekend...... One pickup 2 knobs and some serious tone. yorick
Looks like Westone Pantera.
juliusmonk
I still have one Spectrum II in snow white, very very similar, but it has both the bird logo and 'westone' on the headstock, the single pickup is closed (no pole pieces visible) and the neck joint is with a plate and four screws a la Fender. Serial nr is on the plate and begins with 89 so I guess it's from that year? Bought in Barcelona around that time - my first bass! It sounds rather good to be honest - very Precision-like. Deep Thought
In point (!) of fact, if it wasn't for the headstock that wouldn't be a bad-looking bass. Still got my original Westone Concord I, my first bass from 1983ish. Would never sell it.
