The Roland 15x (guitar amp) is mains only. If your talking about the Roland micro cube rx (for bass) you can put rechargeable batteries in it i suppose they won't recommend it however.

Thanks, I've changed the title now. A friend has recommended something to me.

I think there's more than one model of Crate Taxi, but I remember plugging my bass into one belonging to a friend, and it didn't cut it for bass - no low end at all.
I think a couple of people on here have had good results with the QTX battery powered mini-PA units - they look like you get a bit more for the money than with most of the battery powered instrument amps.

Thanks, that's really what I wanted to know. I'm planning to use it to do my ambient music, so a good low bass reproduction is vital.
