So what happens if someone does the buy it now deal and he's already got bids on an auction with no reserve listed?

He can end either auction early. It's a bit naughty and tbh he may be hoping the £999 BIN listing will make folks think they are getting a bargain if they pay any less than that... though they'd be numpties to pay that!
