Merton Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) For Sale only : Ashdown BTA200 I'm in no hurry to sell this and frankly I don't NEED to, it's just in trying to be sensible. 4 amps is overkill for me (for most people?!) and this one is ridiculously OTT for my current band situation. That said, l love it to bits, it makes me grin like a loon every time I switch it on and for that reason alone I'm not interested in any offers or trades thanks. Anyhoo, what is it? The BTA (Big Tube Amp) originally launched in three variants: 200, 300 and 400. Funnily enough the numbers refer to the RMS wattage. The preamp is the Ashdown ABM EVO III, so solid state with a valve drive stage, 7 band EQ, single knob compression and sub harmonics. The power amp is all valve, in this case 6x6550s. Mark Gooday told me only around 20 of the 200W variants were ever made, so this is pretty rare! It sounds IMMENSE. In a blindfold test between this and an ABM, both set flat, you cannot tell the difference based on a crappy iPhone recording. Live "in the room", however, the BTA has that indescribable "heft" only a valve power stage can produce. Set everything flat, no compression or silly sub harmonics, a bit of valve drive and you're in tonal nirvana. Or at least, I am.... It's heavy (35kg). It's big (W610 x D330 x H362mm). But it's bloody great. In excellent nick except an indentation of a three-pin mains plug on one side, and one bolt cap (holding chassis to wooden sleeve) is missing. Comes with a 4mm padded RoqSolid cover. £750 collected. NOW £700 Shipping to mainland UK £35. NOW £30 Shipping further afield on request Edited September 20, 2015 by Merton
itsmedunc Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I think Jah Wobble uses the Ashdown BTA400. This must be a hell of an amp!
BruceBass3901 Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Merton no! You can't sell this beast! Especially not when the last part of my student loan is due to come through in the next few days
Merton Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 I'll get pictures of this next weekend, it's currently in the band lock up...

discreet Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Just fantastic. So tempted to buy a third amp from you! But it would burst my fragile guts!
Merton Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Haha! It is a glorious beast but a humungous and heavy beast, that's fo' sho'
Merton Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 If it hasn't shifted by the SE Bash in September I'll have to bring it along to show off its awesomeness. As long as someone else carries it from the car

Merton Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 If this doesn't go I'm going to have to make a rash decision about my Status Retroactive J and/or a Barefaced Super Compact. Therefore this is my final price drop, now £675 collected or £699 shipped to the UK mainland. (It's on Gumtree for £700 collected).
Captain Rumble Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 keep it and sell the compact instead
