Mattmit
In a good or bad way?!
Oh crap! That was a vague statement wasn't it.. I meant In a good way. Haven't tried to sell it, it's got some magic in there. I have been on the verge of selling it a few times because it threatens my more expensive limelight P bass. LukeFRC
My memory of the 80s is that Tokai was the brand that finally pushed Fender into the arms of Japanese manufacturers. I think the first Squires are actually re-bedged Tokais. In other words, 80s Tokais are actually early MIJ Fenders. P
Fender Japan was from the greco factory - not tokai
zbigniew
I bought a Tokai Hardpuncher ltd. edition a few years ago off ebay on a whim, it is a fine bass now strung with flats. I sometimes miss the lack of contour and wish I had bought a normal Tokai p-bass. I don't think I can ever sell it because I would regret it too much (sold a Rickenbacker years ago and have regretted it ever since), and it is hard to find another one like it. Great basses you have Glorihanah and nick

Donnyboy
I'd love one. Way back in the day my guitarist friend bought a Tokia Stat (springy sound?) about 1984 red with maple neck, he sold it many years ago for I can't remember what. I bought a Squier Precision again in red maple & still have it, but a HP I feel maybe would've been the business.
luckman67
This was my favourite Tokai bass
el borracho
The neck on mine (79-81) is really chunky. A bit too big for my liking. Its also a fake Tokai - apart from the neck the rest of it is a Fender
BrunoBass
Old thread resurrection: I’m seeing Tokai Hard Punchers coming up on eBay, new for less than £300. I assume these are inferior to the highly rated ‘80s versions? Does anyone know anything about the newer models?
James of Carolina
I have bought a few basses over the years and played several . I bought my 81 Hard Puncher in 1985 and still have it to this day. Definitely a keeper. My other keeper is a Music Man Stingray bass. MIJ Tokai..most Europeans as well as Asians know its value!
