gary mac
Don't do it, just buy a headless. I suspect otherwise you will just end up with a broken bass Welcome to the site.
hubrad
I'd say go for it if you're up for an experiment! Look at pics on #32 here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/44673-ibanez-roadster-megacustom/page__hl__ibanez%20roadster Mine was 4-string headed when I bought it! neepheid
It's much easier to do to a bass which has the truss rod adjustment at the heel (otherwise you need a headpiece/string retainer with a hole through which to access the truss rod nut). It's even easier with a bass with that and a zero fret (otherwise you most likely will have to retain the nut).

Dan Dare
Unless it's a crappy bass you don't care about, I'd sell it as is and get a purpose built headless. Removing the head from anything often ends in tears: 1

If you have a backup bass and can afford to lose the candidate neck or whole bass, I'd say experiment away if it's not a valuable bass to you. rmorris
Make sure it's a bolt-on neck bass so you can replace the neck and save the body if it all goes wrong...
Killed_by_Death
A reliable good-quality system is not cheap & if you do cheap out it will be the luck of the draw whether it works well or is crap on a stick: https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-headless/products/4-string-headless-bass-bridge
prowla
The headstock end which will be the problem area, if the truss-rod is adjustable at that end.
prowla
Also, do NOT (never, ever, ever, EVER) buy the "Overlord Of Music" cheap tuner/bridge system; it is complete rubbish.
