warwickhunt
Lakland basses have designations such as 44-60 44-01 55-01 44-94 44-64 etc. but is there a reason behind the number designation? I assume the start digits are 4 or 5 string (why 44 55?), is the 60/64/01/94 a particular model/year that the bass is based upon? How does one easily identify the different models based upon the model numbers?
felixxx
44-94 was the first Lakland model introduced in 1994. 44 refers to 4 strings and 34" scale. Similarly, 55-94 is 5 strings, 35" scale, also introduced in '94. 44-02 and 55-02 share the same logic, being Skyline models introduced in 2002. 44-01 and 55-01 were also introduced in 2002, but they had to make them somehow different. As for the other models, this is what I know: 44-60 and 55-60 are j basses with 60's pickup placement (previously known as Joe Osborne), 55-69 is Tetsuya signature, 1969 being his birth year, 44-64 and 55-64 are p basses similar to Fender 64 P (previously known as Bob Glaub), 55-07 model developed in 2007, discontinued, 44-51 is single coil p similar to Fender 51 P, Decade was developed as a 10 years anniversary bass. felixxx
I just remembered 44AJ and 55AJ, active jazz basses and DJ4 and DJ5, Darryl Jones signature jazz bass. Also, last year they introduced 44-14 and 55-14, as US models, same as 94, with limited finish options. felixxx
And, new models 44-dual J and 55-dual J, US made passive jazz basses with the same body shape as 44-94 and 55-94. Edited April 25, 2015 by felixxx

mcnach
Aha, now it makes sense that their sadly discontinued Stingray version was called a 76!
