tomthebass Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Hi folks Up for grabs is this lovely early 80s (I believe) creature which I've had for about the last five years and used for quite a few recordings - sample attached.

Sound is sweet, singing and punchy, currently strung with Ken Smith half-rounds for great combination of smooth mwah and singing harmonics.
It's a set neck design so the heel is very rounded and smooth for easy access all the way up the neck.
Unlined fingerboard, I believe ebony, with side dots, length is up to equivalent of 21 frets.
The neck is very straight allowing a low action with no buzz.
Pickup has been replaced before my time with an EMG, but still has the pretty wooden pickup cover. The original pickup will be supplied with the bass in case you wish to change back.
Condition is excellent with the exception of a few small chips to the headstock and a small indentation to the fingerboard which does not affect the playability or sound (it was there when I bought it and has never been a problem). See pics for a closer look.
Genuine potential buyers are welcome to come and give it a try before committing.
I love this bass and am only selling to fund a new fretless project, involving 5 strings and a 2-octave fingerboard!
slapmonsta Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Lovely bass. I have an early 80s Roadie active and just its a beautiful player....John Diggins is indeed a master craftsman. Would love to see up and coming bands playing these on tv again!
shantijoe Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) Hi Tom welcome to Basschat. This used to be my bass and I suspect I sold it to you in 2010 on another unnameable site... The bass sounds good on your clip and still looks sweet. The thumb rest was added by the original owner. I used it with a variety of strings and have a recording of it with flats that I haven't matched since... I'm currently using a Pedulla Buzz, good luck with the sale joe Edited April 26, 2015 by shantijoe
tomthebass Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 Hello Joe Thanks for your note, nice to hear from you. It's great that these unique vintage instruments have a personal history like this, I love it! Never tried a Pedulla, they look gorgeous but only ever seem to have lined fboards, right? Cheers Tom
