4STRINGER Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I wonder if anyone here knows where I can get custom fretboard inlays installed here in the UK. Had a search on Google but didn't really come up with anything. Cheers... Quote
franzbassist Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Brook Guitars in Devon. Their work is superb. Quote

Had a quick look at their website. I'll contact them this week. Have you personally had any work done by them? Pete Quote
HowieBass Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I'm pretty certain Ben Crowe at Crimson Guitars in Dorset could do anything you want http://crimsonguitars.com/ Quote

[/quote] They made me a bass and put a fretless fingerboard on another. Superb work both times. They also made the guitarist in my band a lovely acoustic, which has some very nice inlay work. If you look through the news archive on their site you will see dozens of fantastic examples. Quote

That came up in my Google search. A bit of a dumb question (which wouldn't be unusual for me) but all the info I've come across deals with inlays on a new build. I'm assuming they can be retro-fitted as well? Pete Quote
HowieBass Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I'm sure a lot depends on the complexity of design and materials employed - if you can do a complete refret of an old neck or turn a fretted fingerboard into a fretless using infill veneers for the slots then I don't see why you can't retrofit inlays. Manton Customs Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Yes, it's perfectly possible, though retro fitting them is a much bigger job than starting from scratch due to the re fretting as howie mentioned. If you need another option send me a PM for a quote, though sounds like you have a couple of good candidates already. Quote
