Beer of the Bass
I've seen this company who advertise on eBay and are happy to do cutting to order too: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/farmwoodproducts?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 I haven't used them, but there seem to be relatively few timber merchants who do online sales. Otherwise it's a case of finding a decent local supplier - I'm sure there must be one or two round your way.
petetexas
Hi , Thanks for reply, there are loads of local wood suppliers around , but none do Lighweight Birch Ply. I have just sent a email to the company you suggested , asking them. Cut to size would be a real advantage ! Thanks again Pete Edited April 28, 2015 by petetexas
JoeEvans
Robbins Timber do good mail order for specialist plywood. They do GL3 Aircraft Ply, which I think is what you're talking about with lightweight birch ply - high quality birch veneers, and lots of thin laminations. But I'm not convinced that you'd hear any difference between GL3 and a regular exterior birch ply. The Finnish exterior birch ply in particular is very good quality without going to the GL3 specification, which is about the absolute consistency of quality you need if you're building a plane. 3below
I found that Travis Perkins can supply birch ply - I was able to get 9mm sheets at a reasonable price to the depths of mid Wales. It was also well packed for transportation.
The fasting showman
I found that Travis Perkins can supply birch ply - I was able to get 9mm sheets at a reasonable price to the depths of mid Wales. It was also well packed for transportation.
I found Travis Perkins very helpful too, the branch near me had a circular saw with fence unlike the vertical saws at the big DIY sheds; the cutting was bang on accurate and barely cost anything. Made the build very easy! Good luck, Martin
3below
Tne Travis Perkins birch ply was the proper 'Wisa' type - watch out for inferior types with thin facing. Nothing wrong with this in the right situation but for structural applications you do not want thin facings that lack butt joint strength.
