JTUK
Far rather write something on Jaco... but I guess it depends who you have most empathy with. Who picked those two...?

discreet
Could you write about Joe Meek?
Quite a story. Even now 'Telstar' gives me goosebumps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Meek
paul_5
Y'know Les Paul is responsible for more than a couple of ground-breaking ideas - there's the guitars, the playing, multi-track recording etc...

Myke
James Jamerson.
I'm currently writing my dissertation on The Funk Brothers I've written a good 2000-2500 on Jamerson alone and another 1000 on Bob Babbitt - Fun! lowdown
The BBC did a programme about Joe Meek back in the 90's, and worth a watch. I could only find it on YouTube (in four fifteen minutes cues). http://youtu.be/cr9gZ817bhs
RandomBass
Id say Stanley Clarke as I think he had a tremendous impact but what do I know but out of the two you mention then definitely jack Bruce because he connects more with the mainstream but then again jaco is definitely a one off but I stick with jack bruce as my suggestion are you limited to just one of the two you mention? Beedster
I'd do Macca, obvious and not obvious at the same time. Over and above his more famous singing and songwriting he's a very inflential bassist.
miles'tone
I would write about the player you personally feel the most passionate about, whoever that may be . I'd imagine your writing will be at it's most engaging that way.
discreet
Over and above his more famous singing and songwriting he's a very influential bassist...
He is that. Influenced by Jamerson among others, his melodic style was revolutionary in early British pop music.
tauzero
I'd do Jack Bruce, because I don't know who Jaco is.
