Kirky
I'd like to build compressor from a kit. Nothing too complex. Any recommendations? I currrently use a Boss one and find it too noisy. The BYOC 5 knob kit looks nice: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/5knobcompressor.html Cheers, Martin. I'd struggle to build something from a schematic only - I need simple instructions and all the parts. Cheers.
dannybuoy
I think there's 2 BYOC ones, a Ross clone, and an optical one based on an old DOD280 pedal (so look for reviews of those to see how they might sound). I would try and build a compressor similar to the Demeter Compulator (regarded by some as the best bass compressor pedal). I've had my eye on these 2 and thinking of doing it one day, the Baja Compulator and the Flatline (additional link). jensenmann
If you don´t want a stompbox check these compressors: http://audiokits.de/content/view/18/58/lang,en/ It´s studioquality. The sound will be close to those older JoeMeek compressors like VC1 or SC2
clauster
If you're using the Boss one (CS3) and find it too noisy, and are happy with soldering I can recommend the Monte Allums opto comp mod for it. Loads less noise (even less if you for the optoplus mod, but I found it fine with just the opto mod) and much more squish. It doesn't cost much either. Kirky
Thanks for the advice, keep em coming. That audiokits one looks great, but probably beyond my ability. I've been thinking about the CS3 mod - wasn't aware it actually reduced noise...sounds like it might be worth a go.
