What's it like? As a venue, I mean.

Big and famous, long queues outside, clean toilets?

Or an old dive teetering on the brink of extinction?

The fact that it's got the word "Dartford" in the name should give you a clue as to what it's likely to be like

A quality venue if ever there was one.

if its the one near the police station it has one of the smallest stages i have ever seen, we've played there a couple of times and audiences can vary, depends on whats playing on the tvs in the main bar. the room isnt huge but not small either. but then that was a few years ago so i dont know what its like now

Social clubs, such a joy to play

The first time we played at what has since become a regular gig for us, an elderly couple sat down just in front of the stage. We launched in to our first number and she immediately stuck her fingers in her ears and sat there with a thundery face on. I looked at her husband and was pleased to see that he was enjoying himself and sort of bopping about in his seat. I noticed a little while later, when we were on a break that he was still "enjoying" himself, he had a twitch

They sit at the same table every time we play there.

Sorry Jack, it's not Dartford but it could be.

Yup, the whole thing is a bit weird.

An old friend of mine (Dave Pomeroy) is a pro bass player out of Nashville, pretty well thought-of, and he routinely tours with a number of fairly big-name headliners, especially in the world of rockabilly and country.

He's over today with Sleepy LaBeef, who's not well-known in this country but should be, to headline at a big Rockabilly festival on Saturday night.

Before flying back to Nashville on Monday they then go on to play Sunday night at ...erm ... Dartford Social Club.

Go figure.

That's the fella. We shared a flat for a summer in the 70s.

Really nice guy, great company. If you go, be sure to mention me and Silvia (Bluejay).

Most of the Socials we play have fairly large stages and pay at least double what the local pubs pay..... I like them. Meat Raffle anyone?
[/quote]

:D Yes, the meat raffle is more enthusiastically received than the band. :o

Apart from playing bass on it, this album was also produced by Dave.

1972 - aged 15, very first paid gig for me (with an Irish Country band).
My £4.00 wages were given to me in a little brown envelope.
Dartford Social Club, a place in my heart.

Actually, there were quite a few clubs in little old Dartford back then.
WMC's, Conservative clubs, Irish clubs, all there with a selection of live
music pubs in the area as well. You could go on month long tours
around Dartford without playing the same sh*te hole twice...lol...

Social club gigs are fine mostly these days - all the crap ones either can't afford bands of have gone bust. Just don't talk when they're doing the bingo if you want to get out alive

Had to Streetview it to see what all the fuss was about...
