lowlandtrees Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I use Silver Slaps and am very happy with them. The band then asked me to do bowing on two song intros and outros. Slap strings obviously do not bow well but does anyone do this successfully and have any tips. The rosin I use is very hard....should I use soft rosin for example. I did some quick Youtube lessons and found the german bow hold more comfortable. My quarter size bass proving a bit of a challenge as well but I only have to master 6 notes . The A string seems easier to bow at present. Got less than a month to the gig...better get practising. Quote
TheRev Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Try a softer rosin and rub a bit on the bowing area of the strings. Quote
lowlandtrees Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Thanks Rev .....any particular rosin ......Pops ? Quote
AndyBass Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I used Petz rosin when I used to bow Golden Slaps. Getting a bit of rosin on the strings will help. Ultimately it can be done with reasonable effect but it just won't sound as good as bowing different strings. Quote
lowlandtrees Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 I realise that it will not be the same but I slap and pizz more than arco and it is not worth changing for 2 songs. Thanks for the advice Quote
AndyBass Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Sorry I didn't mean to state the obvious. I did exactly the same thing for a long time until I upped the amount of arco I was doing, which justified switching to steels. Quote
TheRev Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015
Thanks Rev .....any particular rosin ......Pops ?
I use Petz. I don't do a lot of arco but with a bit of rosin on the string I can get a decent sound out of my super silvers. Quote
