I seem to have gone full circle with my bass gear. 15 years ago I had a GP7 7210H combo and 1048H cab and a 1153 cab that i later used with a GK 800RB.

My main amp is a v-type 1x15" but that's been left at the venue we're doing the christmas party nights over Christmas so I can't get any photos of it but here's what it looks like inside - taken yesterday when I changed the preamp valves.



I briefly had a 2103H




I have a second rig that i haven't used yet as I bought it intending to use it with the Rock band but we aren't due to play until boxing night.

Its a 1984 1110 combo that was modded by Trace to allow an 8ohm cab to be used with it and you can also connect a speaker lead to another input to use it as a 4x10" cab










True to form, i have it on Ebay just now and I haven't even gigged with it yet


I also have a 1518 in excellent condition that had a replacement driver put in it that was recommended by Rob Green when he was at Trace

I remember that V-Type interior! What preamp valves did you go for and how do they differ from the Sovteks?

I went for JJ ones. Its hard to do a live comparison as I don't have my MIJ Fender but it sounds quite dirty which is exactly what I was going for. Anything to alleviate the all-valve GAS


Surprising easy to install. I didn't look at any instructions or anything, just pulled the metal holder thingy to one side, wiggle the old one out, line up the new one and bob's your auntie's live-in lover.

JJs should be nice; I tried Rubys in the 4x8 combo (now owned by Matt/Overwater#1) and they dirtied things up a bit vs the stock TE valves but I have to say I actually preferred the Sovteks in the 1x15 when I had it. Enjoy experimenting, it's half the fun

Well I have one of the old ones, 200W model 1215V Combo 2 x 10, and 2 piezo horns, valve preamp solid state power amp, sounds great, weights a ton, very heavy to carry but I am yet to find anything that sounds beefier than this

Hi Delberthot,

I also have a 1984 Trace 1110 Combo and i have a question for you : is it a 100% vintage combo or a restore combo?
In fact, my 1110 (see pictures) is not in a very good condition (used and scratch Tolex, logo/badge lost, some screws are missing, ...) but what an incredibble sound!!!
So... I want to restore it as it is in 1984 and i need some information

Here is my 100% vintage 1984 Trace Elliot 1110 combo... i think it's a 1110 model because i have no serial number and no model type (as you can see on the picture)

Mmmm thats nearly like the gear I use now,I use a 1048 and a 1048h cab,ah 300 head plus a chopped around sb700 will post a pic soon

My V-Type 600H and 1048 cab currently up for trade on here.

Will probably end up with an Ampeg and end up wishing I hadn't got rid of the Trace, the pull of a full valve head is just too much though!

My trace rig at the moment,fookin ell its loud and punchy.1048+1048h+series 6 ah300.With my ratted 1980 sb700 great giggin bass that gets abused but stable as a rock,complete with emgs and active circuit.[attachment=43789:DSC_5019.jpg]

Here's my mean looking devil (s), an AH300 and a 1048H cab.

The head is 20 years old according to the label inside, it has a plastic case which I've not seen before.

I'm not sure how old the cab is.

They sound amazing together.

I used Trace elliot for years from the late 80's to the early 90's when I switched to SWR (I was gigging with bands when I was 15 to buy stuff, I used to have to hide from entertainment secretaries and stewards in clubs 'coz I was underage lol).

I've spent a fortune over the last 10 years or so, buying gear by Epifani, Aguilar, Bergantino, EBS etc. This beats them all.

How come you can spend over a thousand pounds on an amp, only to be driven mad by the incessant whirring of some cheap chinese made fans ?.
The fan in this is almost totally silent, did I mention that it's 20 years old ?

I want to get another 4x10 the same and a 2x10 for smaller gigs.

Oh how I wish I'd never sold these two.

Massive. Heavy. Wobbly wheels. I didn't even get much for them.

But standing in front of them on a stage was like standing in front of a weather system - felt like you could almost lean on the sound, like you can lean on a strong wind... And they looked like they meant f**king business too.
