harvey1-8
Here's my mean looking devil (s), an AH300 and a 1048H cab. The head is 20 years old according to the label inside, it has a plastic case which I've not seen before. I'm not sure how old the cab is. They sound amazing together. I used Trace elliot for years from the late 80's to the early 90's when I switched to SWR (I was gigging with bands when I was 15 to buy stuff, I used to have to hide from entertainment secretaries and stewards in clubs 'coz I was underage lol). I've spent a fortune over the last 10 years or so, buying gear by Epifani, Aguilar, Bergantino, EBS etc. This beats them all. How come you can spend over a thousand pounds on an amp, only to be driven mad by the incessant whirring of some cheap chinese made fans ?. The fan in this is almost totally silent, did I mention that it's 20 years old ? I want to get another 4x10 the same and a 2x10 for smaller gigs.
I had one of those that was made in '91, head case and all. Cracking amp. I really miss not having a 4x10 now as well. Mwah ha ha ha That's the 1524, 4052H and AH150 Mk V --- It'll probably all be for sale tomorrow knowing me - £450 collected ONO :brow: I'll be using the 1248H in place of the 1524 tomorrow night Edited April 24, 2010 by Delberthot
Count Bassie
MK IV head (80's, right?), got for a steal from a guy on craigslist who was leaving the country. It'll be a good mate for the 250SMX I regularly gig with. I love the sound of these amps! And the UV light is so... 80s! This is one of the fun parts of these heads- it's a high-end piece of gear which sounds beautiful in a live mix, and comes with this interesting 'extra'- without the compromise of a less-than-stellar unit underneath. Quality and thoughtfulness, together in the same little box... what a revolutionary idea! GP11 MK IV: So I've got the top half, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 1518 cab to go with 'er, which should then qualify for the 'back-breaking' requisite. I've come to love the sound I'm getting out of these amps, I'm quiet now about this aspect of my sound, etc. Not looking any further. Mang, this took a long time... Shockwave
This is my "B" Rig, the only difference being the "A" Rig has the trace swapped out for an Ampeg SVT-IIP and outboard compressor. Used it yesterday and it sounded great! Utterly reliable. Trace Elliot GP12 SMX Pre-amp. Crown XS-700 1900 Watts mono bridged. Barefaced Vintage 2x15 W/Tweeter. GrumbleStiltskin
Bit more Green stuff, well quite a bit actually. When there's enough room on stage the Rick gets to go through both the V8 and the Twin Valve rigs. Ah150 GP7 was bought new by me in 82 and has never let me down and really is just an amazing amp. 410 is actually a Hartley Thompson design prototype with Trace speakers.
Hi SS73, I've just 'acquired' the amp & speakers in the picture recently. I bought the 1048 speakers last week on e-bay for £93. My head looks the same as your AH150, which I was given by the guitarist in our band in return for some repair work on his Flying V, so my complete rig cost me just over £100 once I had been to Pontefract to get the 4x10 cab. The head has certainly had to work for a living by the looks of it, as there are cigarette burn marks on the top! I was wondering if you have any more info on the head, such as manuals or even circuit diagrams, as I have been told that there is a problem with mine, but it has always worked fine for me. I wouldn't mind something, just in case. I have looked on the Trace website, but I think this model is a bit old for them and don't seem to publish circuit diagrams. The only manual I found was the AH150 SMC, which is a newer version. Thanks, GrumbleStiltskin

I do have the manual, but not the circuit diagram. I will look into getting you a copy of it, Pm me your email and I will send it over. Cheers, Sean. My e-mail address is: tf01800780 "at" hotmail.co.uk Thanks very much for offering to send the manual. Cheers, Andy PS. Since I wrote the original mail, I have managed to get my hands on a 1 x 10" cab as well, but the driver had blown. I bought a 10" 200W Celestion driver for it and it sounds awesome. I use this for practises and then for gigs I think I might use the 1x10 as well as the 4x10. I know this is a bit unconventional, but it works for me. I tried it in the studio last week and the results were seismic! I think I only had the amp on 2 or 3 on the master volume and had to back off the volume on my bass. nick
Hi, Here's my old V-Type. Just replaced the JJ Tesla's I previously put in it, with a pair of Harma (cryo) Telefunken ECC803S clones - lovely warm tone, but still punchy. The matching 4x12 has a monster sound, fills the room, but weighs a ton! For smaller gigs I use a Kappalite loaded 1x15 '1153' cab. Colledge
i miss having my big ol' trace 2x15 and the novelty both the visual and aural presence. My current v-type combo is less of a pain in the arse and sounds great.... but i don't feel as "f*** yeah" when i'm playing it. Might see if i can make myself a nice matching lightweight extension cab to help my ego out. Does anyone know where i cab get the trace green carpet? i'll get pics up at some point... the combo is in great nick... but nothing that'll make you pitch a tent. mikhay77
Forgot about the trace porn thread, just posted it on show us your rig. Here's mine, moved on some other trace gear so now this is my main gigging rig 1048h+trace 4x8+ ah500 12 smx.It is simply brilliant, the condition and sound of this rig is fantastic, nice highs due to 4x8 but not too harsh due to not much horn used (ooh err) All driven by a classic 500watt trace head with pre valve, mint.Stick my Neuser cloudburst or Bilodeau (left) custom Jazz or Aria SB through it and takes them all to a higher level.A fellow bass player buddy but a double bass through it on saturday,ha he is hooked. disssa
The V6 sounds a bit more "smoother" than the V8. The V6 is more a "Bluesman", while the V8 is more a "Rocker". Both amps got a lot of growl, and sounds perfect. I think, the V6 is more a allrounder...
