I guess if you have a 54 strat with a missing or incorrect knob replacing it with the irght one could easily increase the value by a couple of grand so in that context it could be a bargain form the right person....to everybody else it is a bloody expensive knob!

If it was in perfect condition - that is a very high price.

As it's in what appears to be pretty OK condition it'd be a lot less - I wouldn't pay $95, let alone $995.
I wouldn't be that fussy over original components (e.g. bridge saddle screws, tuner mounting screws, or even things like the nut, or knobs if they've been replaced with something matching the original).

Mid 50s strats go for about 20 grand so yeah slightly overpriced for a volume knob all things considered.

Crazy money!

Posted (edited)

I don't get how the whole vintage thing stretches to asking ridiculous amounts of money for a screw, or a knob, or some pickup foam. I can understand how a vintage fender may command a bit more if it is 100% original, but not enough that you'd pay a thousand dollars for a knob. Plus, if you needed a knob and bought this, it wouldn't be original, would it?

If I was in the market for a pre-cbs, as long as it had the original neck, body and pickups, I don't think I'd care about much else.

But then, I'm not a vintage collector…!
