You'd be daft not to grab this mate!

http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25274

I have owned BK Electronic stuff.. and it is so very well built! I have owned 2 BK amps before.. they build a lot of OEMs for other manufacturers, including PA gear.

Peavey did a 1U power amp range called the DPC (digital power converter) which came in 2 sizes 700w & 1400w (may be a bit out on the smaller one). They have the usual Peavey ruggedness/reliability and are cheap enough, if you can find one.

There´s a german company called KMT-sound. They actually make PAs and poweramps. I bought one of their poweramps for the bassrig at work and I have to admit that it has punch as hell. And they are reliable. check out here:

go to Endstufen. the one we use is a DC5. It weights 10kg which should be ok.

Be very careful here.

Our drummer actually bought this very amp a few weeks ago and when I plugged it in it was arcing inside and smelt horrible.....needless to say he sent it back. The seller then admitted it had a non Peavey repair sometime in the past and then had the audacity to say the amp was working fine.....

If it's anyone on here, then you should be ashamed of yourself!

BEWARE!

These are the best ;o) (IMHO etc etc) - but the price tag is a bit full on for the average pub gig. I owned the D2004 2k amp and nothing could touch it for sheer quality ;o)

Found these Technical Pro 1u Power amps from the US, they seem great for the money and they are also switchable from 110-220v

Mine came from Electro Music in Doncaster. I don't think it was a stock item but arrived really quickly.
I can heartedly recommend them too.
Light, but exceptional quality.
Downside: Fairly expensive. (But not *really*, I mean, back in the early 80's, a very general rule of thumb was that amps used to cost about a pound per watt. ie 300watt cost £300 to buy (ish) yet even after 30 years of inflation the powersofts cost WAY less than £1 per watt...) but then they *are* a lot of watts!

Yeah, when googling, it seemed to come up as being stocked in Electro, but the page doesn't load, and they aren't listed on the Electro site. They probably just stopped stocking them. Its a weird one, but I'd probably ask them if I had the money to buy one from new. They seem to be awesome at getting obscure stuff in!

Ooohh.... I'm not going to take offense to this!!!! Honest!

I think you will be hard pushed to find Powersoft amplification in any MI retail store as it's not an MI product guys. You could contact the following who will be able to advise you of purchase -

Leisuretec - 01525 850085
AC Lighting - 0113 255 7666
RW Salts - 0844 980 8800
Mercury AV - 0845 9000 805

Or if you get stuck give me a shout.

Bear in mind that a high power 1U amp will tend to be of significant depth whilst a similar 2U amp can be a lot shallower so the total racked volume may be the same. The QSC PLX and PLX2 amps are all around 20lbs or less and hit a great balance of price vs size/weight/features/power. The Crown XTi amps are also well worth looking at as they're even cheaper and lighter and have built in DSP.

That's true.
They (the Powersoft amps) are VERY deep.
They *will* fit in a Gator Rack, but they stick out of the back quite a long way into the lid...

However, in fairness, the space behind amps is usually a wasted space, so 1U high *is* a bonus, even on a deep amp. You pays your money you takes your choice!

A rail to rail 'depth' of an SKB is 15 inches, and front rail to back lid is about 18 inches. A powersoft D series is about 17 inches. You don't need a torch light on stage and you don't need to shove your head or your arm into the rear the rack case.

Yeah, there you go. Exactly! ...What I said but put way more eloquently.

Chevin A500. They go between £200 - £300 on Ebay. They will do 700W into 8 ohms bridged and are light as a feather.
