Born 2B Mild
I'm blown away with my new Euro 6. I've had it for two weeks now and have used it for four gigs (now benefiting from an hour on Jim Fleeting's work bench), and I'm starting to think about a few things. It's my first Spector, and I'd appreciate some advice from you Spexperts. Firstly, I would much rather have one volume control, and one pick up mix control. This to be instead of the current seperate volume knobs, one for each PUP. Can I just get a guitar tech to sort this, or is it something best done by a Spector Specialist? Secondly, I get a very different sound from the low B string than the E. I'm not used to having a low B, so is this normal? It sounds more muffled, where as the E is like the other strings on this bass, very crisp. I'm also going to get some gold knobs to replace the ex-works ones. NiceGuyHomer has suggested Axesrus but I just wondered if there was another source I could compare choices. NB: This bass is amazing. I was a bit concerned that I was getting sucked in to a mass neurosis on Spectors, but I have to say, the popularity for Spectors is in my mind, well founded. Alas poor Warwick! Mike Brooks
Send me a PM and I'll send you a link for Axesrus regarding gold control knobs at £2.70 each. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and they work a treat. Excellent company to deal with too, very quick response to emails and quick shipping too. Before and after photo's when done. Anyone know about getting a central volume and a PUP mixing wiring job as per my OP?
thedontcarebear
EMG are usually pretty good at replying if you e-mail them and ask.
JimBobTTD
Changing the volumes to a master and a blend doesn't seem like too challenging a job. You could probably pull it off yourself, but if you would rather give it to a tech, you shouldn't be charged too much for it.
jensenmann
I never realized that Spectors are popular. For years they have been a secret, at least here in Germany. Wherever I gigged with my NS2 people asked me what Warwick model this is. yuk Edited August 26, 2008 by jensenmann

Could be a duff string in a set.... Change all your strings and try again. 3) Welcome to SpectorWorld!
TDM
Would it be possible to rewire it so the pickups are blended before they go into the preamp, so you only use one pickup input on the preamp, and then the volume for that would become the master volume, and you just disconnect the other volume knob, and replace it with that blend knob? Born 2B Mild
Thanks for everyone's advice. Some contradictions on the electronics issue though. I have now sent an email to Spector Customer Service about the re-wiring. I can't believe I'm the only Spector user to want a master volume & master blend. Does anyone know if there is a chat forum/thread for Spector?

machinehead
I have a Spector CRFM 5 from about 2000 year - predates the Euro LX. I have a U-retro fitted which works a treat and gives the bass the controls you want and more plus a fantastic range of control over the sounds. Highly recommended. Got the gold knobs to match the other hardware too. Looks a treat. Frank

Maybe by the time you do want to sell it, I'll be in a position to buy it! I'll put 10p in a tin each day ...(checks calculator) so I'll have it for my 64th in 14 years then.
