Nearly 50 years playing bass I've found an instrument that should last me another 50

I can't put it down!

I need to practice it though because it's got a high C string and my old brain thinks I've got a 5 string with a low B

It's gorgeous, it weighs nothing, it balances perfectly on my leg without a strap, it's easy on my knackered old left hand.

Apart from all that it sounds amazing!

Wish I'd had one 50 years ago.

They do sound good, don't they.

I briefly had the MB2, but it was a 4 string and fretless. Both together made my brain explode so sadly it was sold on, but it was the best sounding bass I've played in a long time.

Have fun.

Hmmm....I have just bought & am enjoying a £90 fret less bass uke. I can that this is where I will end up in a few years!

Looks great, enjoy!

Yep, sorry about the derail from Rob Allen goodness. You can read about it here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/104007-5-string-bass-ukulele/page__hl__bass%20uke. I would LOVE either a Deep 5 or a Mouse but would need them fretted. Mr Allen said no :( He does create lovely instruments.

[/quote]Really? That certainly speaks well of his order book to be able to turn down a custom request. Shame, although of course I'm sure a UK luthier could do the work as a retro fit.

Rob Still makes them fretted! But he is busy. Here is my fretted 5 MB-2 with 33 scale

I asked him about a fretted Deep 5. Probably just as well because I could not afford one :(

Update on the Mouse

Done a few gigs seated with the Mouse in the 2 months since I got it, but last night was the first time I played it standing with a strap.

It was great, balanced really well, no neck dive.

Sounded good through a GKMB150

Sax/guitar/bass trio played to about 60 women on a Ladies Night, had them dancing, no need for a drummer!

I love this bass!
