Old Horse Murphy
I've been thinking about trying out the new Ric 4003S for a while now and was very lucky to previously have owned a Ric Chris Squire. I fell in love with the looks and sound, but most important for me, was the contoured body as I always found the slab bodied Rics quite uncomfortable on my forearm. Anyway, a quick trip to Guitar Guitar in Epsom, 2 guitars offered as trade bait and the deal was done I definitely wanted the Mapleglo which was lucky as it was the only one they had in stock Here it is, together with a family shot (my Old US P Bass, American Vintage 64 Jazz FSR, Martin D28 (sorry) and my Lakland Hollowbody which is currently up for sale). I have quite a few gigs suddenly appear in the diary, so hopefully most of these will get used
Cosmo Valdemar
Well you've saved me a trip - I was intending to pop over to GG at the weekend to try out this very bass! It's absolutely stunning. I want one.
gary mac
That's a looker Nick. Like the look of the fret board timber.
Cairobill
Very interesting - I'm looking seriously at the 4003s - what's the neck profile like? Weight?
ezbass
I bought the Fireglo one last Friday, they're a bit nice aren't they? Congrats. Old Horse Murphy
Quite 50's P Bassy to me. Not a massive handful but certainly slightly deeper than the current U.S. Fenders but not as wide. Weight-wise I'd guess around 9lbs. I love the sound this thing makes with both pups on full and the tone up. Very fizzy

AndyTravis
That's bloody beautiful. And I sold my 4003 when I was poor - it hadn't seen use because my right forearm used to come out in red welts!

I hope you're enjoying yours as much as I am mine. The weight is a bit of a wake up call after my incredibly light weight 5 stringers and I'm experimenting with straps, but the string spacing/set up are just made for my right hand, I don't think I've plucked so fast, so accurately. If it doesn't sound 'just right' with my two bands at rehearsals I'm going to be annoyed (and not a little surprised).

I do think they need to be sling lower the normal for me on a strap in order for it to sit right. Not quite Hooky, but certainly not Mark King either When I can get to my amp, I need to adjust the front pickup as its noticeably quieter than the treble pickup. I had this on a previous Ric and although I really like the fizzy sound they produce together, I'd like a little bit more bass too.
ezbass
I spoke to a friend who had a Ric and this does seem to be the standard pickup set up for Ric basses. As it was the blended sound that blew me away I'm leaving as is. It's not overly heavy (8ish pounds) but that's at least 2 more (3 compared to my Rob Allen) than I'm used to. I normally fit D tuners to 4 strings but Hipshot inform me that they don't make a direct, matching replacement any more I played the beast for about an hour and a half yesterday, I can hardly wait to use it in anger Edited May 22, 2015 by ezbass
Old Horse Murphy
Just strung mine with my obligatory TI's and dropped the action a bit. Very happy
