Has anyone got or had this set up? would it work? I'm aware that a 1X12 extension is more popular.

I'd just use the 1X15 for gigging which isn't that frequent. I'm not technically minded enough to know why the 2 x1x12s are so much more popular. Is it more about logistics than anything else?

If you can, go for the 1x15 combo with the 1x15 ext cab. The reason being that if you're using 2 different sized drivers, you're letting yourself in for dead spots across the audience (unless you have them so one is just producing lows & the other mids & highs) and other things.
The reason 12's are a popular choice is that they have a better dispersion than a 15 & usually have a smaller footprint.
A good 2x12 setup is gonna be loud enough for most venues (though I found a good 2x10 covered all I needed).

Thanks. I already have the 1x12 combo with a LM Rocker 500 head. You've helped me decide where to go with this. I'll wait for a 12" extension to come along. Buy one from new if I have to.

I used to have a CMD121P and an older (smaller) 1 x 15 traveller. Seemed to work well enough. I never had any adverse comments from punters or complaints from sound-men.

Still, the New York 1 x 12 would be my first choice for that combo as they will match well for certain and they are the same size.

I've just bought a 12" combo from Ambient (great guy and a great amp) got it home, sat it on a cheap Skytec PA sub in the living room and tried it out.... Sounded great, so I plugged in the 1x15 sub..... Still sounded great, added something (not really sure what though) Obviously it was only at living room level and the Skytec thing really isn't a great bit of kit but even so, it will definitely work!
