JellyKnees
For false nails perhaps... but then all my basses and guitars have been either black, white, sunburst or natural finishes, so what do I know?
Donnyboy
Not sure about the Tort pickguard with it - but with a white one it would be great
I agree with this wholeheartedly ( or a pearl guard). Love the pink/maple combo.
Bassassin
I feel that this really would benefit from a contrasting pink pickguard
Where's the contrast there? Black pearl incoming... Anyway - I take back what I said about Shell Pink - Kevin Lindsay's P is . Maple & pink tug bar - it's all in the details! J. Billy Apple
It takes a man to play pink. With tort, matching head-stock and rosewood. Game over.
SteveK
Of course, it's all down to taste... Some have got it! Some haven't! I personally would never do pink, but... IMV pink with white plate looks ghastly! If you really want to get away with this shade of pink then, regardless of neck, the tortoiseshell plate is an ABSOLUTE MUST! joeystrange
I played a shell pink P Bass with white scratch plate and pups and rosewood board as my main bass for years. Loved it.
Roger2611
I have looked at this thread and have drawn two conclusions, firstly I want a shell pink Precision and secondly I prefer the tort pickguard / rosewood combination....now I am in posession of a Shoreline Gold Fretless P bass with ebinol board and I am also in posession of a tort guard.....off to Halfords for some Shell Pink paint then! mcnach
Been looking at loads of the old Fender custom colours for my refin and I really like this colour combo, but I'm undecided if I could rock it myself. Not sure if the novelty would wear off. What do you lot think about it? Could you/do you play a pink one?
with a white/mintgreen/cream pickguard, yeah! BobVbass
It takes a man to play pink.
Oh yes I'm all man, me. Well except eves and weekends of course Pink's just a colour - in Pre Victorian times pink was considered masculine and powder blue a feminine one
Geek99
I would play it, my daughter would love it, but the pish taking here at Chateau Geek would be immense
Billy Apple
Pink could be a cheeky life saver for me. I could buy as many basses' as I want and as long as they were pink the Lady Bones wouldn't mind.
molan
I always remember the head of the Fender CS sales team telling me that Shell Pink was a sure fire best seller. One of the fastest moving colours of all CS basses but dealers are always frightens of ordering them

miles'tone
Never thought about a black pickguard until I saw this. I think it works instead of the tort for a dark contrast. What do you think?
Byo
Never thought about a black pickguard until I saw this. I think it works instead of the tort for a dark contrast. What do you think?
I think that is a killer combo, specially with the Maple board. The tort pickguard seems to vary depending on the amount of red and normally, red and pink do not go well together. But there is a lovely example of a Shell Pink P with a tort guard on this topic too... Hard to tell without seeing them in the flesh. miles'tone
Pink is fine. I have an MIJ '96 Anniversary Jazz which I acquired many years ago through this Forum. It has all the signs of being heavily used both by the original owner and myself. I found that the original white scratch plate was a bit too in-your-face so I changed it to a Tort. This was taken before I changed back to a VVT control plate.
Sorry for the late replys here.. I love the look of tort with the pink on your bass . I've come around to agreeing that it's got to be with a rosewood fingerboard though. Cool bass! Is it a custom shop? Or did you put it together yourself? The tug bar sets it off really nicely. It IS all in the details. I think I'm going to go for it with either a mint green or 1-ply black pickguard (1-ply because I'll have to spray the parchment one that's on there already! ) Thanks for the inspiration all!! Vinny
This seems like a good time to calm the nerves of the multitudes rendered insensible at the sight of a gentleman [s]playing with his pink wood in [/s][s]public[/s] owning a bass in very pale red, by posting a picture of the legendary Shrinking Violet being used in anger. Any excuse!
