Mono Vertigo not for 6 String!!!

Recommended Posts

I have a Mono Vertigo case I got from Strings Direct. It is fine for 4 string bass BUT my 6 Strings do not fit because of the "head-lock" thing it is way too narrow for a 6 and pushes the neck forward contorting the bag & I contest putting strain on the neck.

So 6 Stringer consider another Gig Bag...

Thats worth knowing... I assume the sleeve will have the same issue?

I have an M80 but was thinking of going for the sleeve, maybe not now!

Yeah I am sure the "sleeve" has the same system as Vertigo M80 seems to have a strap? So that fits 6's then?

It's maybe worth giving bass direct/gear a call and find out. I use the vertigo case for my basses (5strings) and find they are a perfect fit but it would definitely struggle with a 6er.

Yes the m80 is fine for Sixers but it is quite big and bulky...

My wal weighs 11lb and any weight I can save in a decent Gigbag would be a bonus.

I've had a Vertigo for maybe 2 1/2 years.

In that time I've carried a Yamaha TRB6P, a Zon Sonus 6, a Mayones 6 and my trusty Modulus Quantum 6 string in it. The Modulus has travelled thousands of miles with me in it.

Must just be your bass.

Not trying to be rude, I've just been puzzling how it wouldn't fit when all of mine have.

The bass is meant to face forwards, so the back of the neck goes against the narrow bit of the headlock thing.

Yes a 4 string fits into the groove & is cosseted by the bigger aperture the other side, a 6 sits atop the headlock groove & is pushed down on it from the other side. Look at the lump on your case where the headlock is & look how the headlock is being squashed! Not a correct fit!

I suspect they've changed them ?

There's definitely no pressure on the neck. Last night before the reply above, I put my bass into the bag and checked. My headstock is angled backwards though, maybe that's the difference ?

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I think the main difference between your bass and mine, is that your bass has a deeper neck profile, so it would protrude more.

My basses have always had very flat profiles, so I guess it all come down to the particular bass that you own, whether the Mono would be ok or not.

[attachment=193071:unnamed.jpg] Here's mine in the bag, while it doesn't fit inside the holder thing, it certainly doesn't protrude too far forwards.

[attachment=193072:unnamed-1.jpg] The bag with bass inside, there's no obvious bump or anything.

Oh yes yours does fit much better. When I zip my bag up the back of the bag has a large lump & the whole bag looks twisted! My 6 String Basses are Status Graphite. I wonder if Mono are working on an adjustable headlock thing? I may get a M80 with strap for my 6s & use Vertigo for 4s 'cos all in they are great bags!

Tell you a great bag for 6's or even basses with more strings, the Protec Contego.

I had one and they're amazing, better than the Mono in fact. Also the grab thing is adjustable, you can move it about in the bag, it attaches using velcro, and it's a strap that wraps around the neck, rather than the pad thing in the Monos.

I only sold mine because of the weight of them, I was travelling to London 3 days a week by train.

I also had a Mono M80, but they were too deep with the front pockets. They wouldn't fit into the overhead luggage racks on Virgin trains.

Thanks for that, bit cheaper too BONUS!! I just need for car & short walk to open-mic session so if weight = protection then thats fine.

It's a semi-rigid design, the protection is a lot better than the Mono. It weighs more, which if you're in a car isn't really important I guess, but I was on a train, with a load of books and a laptop, and sandwiches :).

Mine came from Thomann, and was quite a bit cheaper than Bass direct, mind you that was ages ago though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Glad things worked out for you.

In any case Mono are relatively specific on their website about what types of basses wil fit the Vertigo, and they do state that the headlock fits "standard width bass necks", so a better choice might be the M80, as others in this thread have said.
