waynepunkdude
I still haven't worked out my sound on my Trace GP7. I want an attacky sound with a bit of bottom end keeping the clarity of the notes. Anyone know any good settings?

I'd suggest pre-shape on, compression (don't think your GP7 has got compressor, so maybe something like the Aphex Punch factory) and some top end added with the EQ sliders or the EQ control. gary mac
I'm using a trace 1 x 15" combo and find that it really does vary from venue to venue. But I usually start off with the graphic set in what I suppose roughly resembles the letter m, plus a bit of compression. I think the biggest impact as far as punchiness is concerned has been the recent addition of a trace 2 x 10". I have always been pleased with the combo, but the extra cab has really made a difference. Not enjoying the weight though, most of the past week was spent in mucho pain from loading the car after last weeks gig. Think I will be selling it all in the next few weeks to add to funds for some mark bass kit. All the best, Gary.

stingrayfan
Maybe. It won't be a magic wand but it'll prob make you sound a bit more punchy and even the sound out so the high notes have attack too. Tried EQ'ing with the rotary control rather than the graphic? stingrayfan
I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic or not. I adjust that and usually find it does the trick. I've got the same amp as you - but 50w lighter. See if you can borrow a pedal compressor to try out. I'd lend you mine - but I've got a few gigs in a row coming up. I know what sound I want and my amp I'm sure can do it but I can't explain it because I'm an idiot. Sad thing is I had a dream about it last night I am a big lameo
stingrayfan
Bring your bass and the head to the Guildford bass bash and we'll work out how to do it. I can bring my compressor pedal so you can try it out.

MuseMatt
Try setting the EQ balance to Low and add some high in your EQ. Try shape 1/2 and see what comes out best. Even so, you could try more gain and less master. That did the trick for me, and I use the same gear!

Always set the eq sliders around the 0 line, don't be afraid to go below the line into db minus, this is where you will get the best tones. Once you have your EQ levels set for your sound, hit the A string hard until you get the red gain light blinking, now back the gain off 1 click and your gain is set.( my settings for the 4001 are from left to right +3, +6, +2, -3, 0, +2, 0,) they will change though from room to room). Cheers, Sean.

Cheers!
Cool thats great, I have used this rough setting pretty much since I bought the amp new in 1983! (its an AH150 GP7 n its never let me down ), and perhaps adding some more high's to suit diff rooms. I have heard that the pre shape switch will only put this ''sqashed M shape'' eq setting in anyway, so really by moving the eq sliders you are only enhancing this shape. MuseMatt
For me as a desert rock player I tend to play dropped D (just because I hate playing 5string) so a lot of open D is played. However I think you should just make sure you don't get any peaks at all so pick the lowest string and just peak on that, just to be safe

Bands like QOTSA, Kyuss, Masters of Reality, Triggerfinger, Eagles of Death Metal, and The Desert Sessions (which kinda initiated the term. It's also called stonerock, mostly due to QOTSA

waynepunkdude
I have found a good sample of the tone I want but all I can find on youtube is a bad quality version. If you can hear it or know the song and know how to get as close to it with my amp that would be awesome From 2.
