Never been a huge fan of the looks but I really like the tone in the OP's clip, very nice playing as well!

Great sounding bass & nice tasteful playing too. Glad to hear you're keeping the original colour too. Black & maple never looks wrong!

Thanks for the comments... kind of wish I'd spent a bit more time on the clip, now! :)
Here's one demonstrating the Marathon's RAWK credentials... this is through an Ignite Amps SHB-1, which is an Ampeg SVT sim.

Had a white one of these as a loaner for a while. Great to play. I seem to recall that the "stereo" was different to the Rickenbacker kind in that it split the outputs into one for the E and A strings and the other one for the D and G strings.

That it does... if you use one of the output sockets you get all four strings in mono. You get the split if you use both sockets. I'm not sure why you'd want to bi-amp E+A and D+G strings separately though, it doesn't make much sense to me.

The only application I could think of was to apply chorus to just the D and G strings. That way I could play Peter Hook style high bass parts on those strings, but still get a clear bassy sound out of the E and A.

Magnificent. There is something uniquely British about these basses — lightly quirky with bags of character, and they do sound good don't they? My original fretted Marathon was pretty much identical to this one, and the serial number started with a a six. I wonder....? I'll have to dig out an old diary from 1979 to see if I wrote it down.

I swapped the fretted for a fretless version, which has been modified to incorporate a second pickup, an extra set of controls and a chunkier bridge. That will undoubtedly affect any sale value, but as it's not for sale.... why worry? Good excuse for reposting a picture:
