jonnythenotes Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 A bit of fun here... I bought my Trace Elliot T bass in 1996, and its still with me now. I have had so much gear come and go over the years, basses, amps, cabs, pedals, you name it, and at some stage I have had it, but this bass is still with me. It's not the best, or most expensive I have ever had, but it is the one that means the most to me, has been all over the country with me, and has got a sound to it that none of my others has, or is capable of reproducing. Sometimes in doesn't see the light of day for months on end, but when it does come out, it's like seeing an old buddy again. It weighs a ton, has got a few clunks on it, it's pretty old school now after 20 years compared to what's out there now.. But with that age comes its own unique voice.... Anyway what's your old faithful, and why.... ( Selling a bass and buying it back again gets you extra points..) Quote
discreet Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I don't think I've ever mentioned it on this forum, but it must be my 1976 Precision. Been with me all its life except for four years after I rashly sold it. But I did buy it back, so I claim the extra points for that! One day I really must take some pictures of it and post them on BC... Quote
jonnythenotes Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 Sorry discreet....no points awarded for becoming temporarily insane, and selling something that good in the first place......although a picture or two could earn you quite a few drool and envy points.. Quote
CamdenRob Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 My current bass.... I only have one at the moment Quote
Lozz196 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 A Fender Precision. Sure I have ones that I prefer, but as long as I have access to a Precision, I`m happy. Quote
ezbass Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I am lucky enough to have some lovely pieces, but years of nice basses and GAS have proved to me that the bass that I can't live without is probably the next one Quote
ChunkyMunky Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 My Musicman Bongo. I REALLY don't want to sell it but priorities and adult stuff takes precedent! Quote
bassbiscuits Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) One of my two precisions shown in my avatar - a sunburst 1970 which I've had for over 20 years, or the 1995 one i bought 10 years ago when the old girl finally succumbed to a refret, and which immediately became my go-to bass for almost every gig since. While the 1970 is lightweight and vintage and feels almost delicate, the 1995 weighs a tonne and is a bit of a bruiser - but it's loud, fat, perfectly set up and free from buzzes. Never gonna sell either of those, and every time i try other new basses I come back to these as my benchmark. Edited June 11, 2015 by bassbiscuits Quote

chris_b Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 A Precision. I've owned one since 1969 and only stopped playing it in the mid 90's to move to 5 strings. It feels like coming home to be playing a 5 string P bass for the last 4 years. Quote
jonnythenotes Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) Discreet....that was an undies changing moment..... What a corker..... and to use a line in all good Harry Potter films.... 10 house points awarded.. Edited June 11, 2015 by jonnythenotes Quote

Very cool I'm doing my best to get my hands back on my first ever bass, which was a musicmaster, not sure on the age, probably early 80s. It's not going well Quote
ahpook Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Which bass can't I be without ? My 1985 Japanese Jazz Bass - just restrung it this afternoon and boy it's a fantastic instrument. Quote
timmo Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I will never sell my clover avenger. My first bass. Quote

PauBass Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) My Custom Fender Jazz Bass, it's the bass I've always wanted ...slim neck, matching headstock ad it plays and sounds really good! Jazzneck Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Precision, in fact my Limelight will not be going anywhere without me. Ampeg AEB-1 - yup, it took me a long time to "get it" and it's weird but I love it. Quote
Roger2611 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 The 50's classic Precision in my avatar picture....well it started life as a 50's classic! Quote
essexbasscat Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Roadworn precision, just does the job so easily I can pay attention to everything else that's going on Quote
Truckstop Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I've had a few basses in my time but the one I've felt a real affinity for is my current Yamaha BB1024x. I bought it about 2 years ago and, apart from a string of dep gigs when I needed a 5er, I've used it for every gig and rehearsal. Had hundreds of hours of playing time with it and, to me, other instruments fail to hit the mark. Quote
4-string-thing Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Predictably, another Precision.... This one has an S serial number making it a 77 or 78. I've owned it since 1979. I don't play it much nowdays, but will probably never sell it. Quote

Something about that bass really clicks at the moment. Quote
