RockfordStone Posted August 4, 2015 Share Posted August 4, 2015 i believe the windows install binds itself to the motherboard and not the hard drive, also, wouldn't removing the hard drive void the warranty anyway on the basis that it has been tampered with? [/quote] Assuming were talking about a desktop machine ... not sure how they could tell unless they sealed the retaining screws for the drive, and there is almost certainly room to just add a another drive anyway so just unplug the power to the original one and your away. As for windows "binding" to the board, not sure what you think is happening here, it certainly isn't modifying it in any way. Windows just uses certain identifying properties of the board in order to tie it to the licence (such as the MAC address), MS don't care how many licences you tie to the same hardware, the more the better as far as they are concerned.
